Goodman heat pump not heating

I have an older heat pump ( Goodman model PGB036100-1A REV A). This morning it would come on for about 1 minute then shut off. There is a LED light that blinks 4 times when it shuts off. According to the back of the panel this is indicating that its a problem with the open limit switch. I called a service technician and was told to shut the heat off for a few minutes and then turn it back on. After doing so the heat has not came back on at all, only blowing out cold air. Any suggestions on what the culprit is and what I can do to fix it? The service tech wants $75.00 to come out and look at it plus $75.00 an hour plus parts to fix it, money that I do not have right now.

Are you refering to a thermostat thats inside the unit itself? The only thing that I have seen behind the panel that I removed is the main circuit board. Thats where I seen the LED light that was blinking 4 times and the back of that panel had the trouble shooter codes and said that 4 blinks indicated the open limit switch. How would I check the thermostat ( assuming that I can find it...lol! )?

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MY REPAIRMAN CHARGED $190,00, AND STILL DOESN'T WORK RIGHT. HEATS FOR A MINUTE, BUT MOSTLY JUSTS BLOWS LIGHTLY WARM AIR. STAYS COOL ON ONE SIDE OF THE HOUSE, WHILE THE OTHER HEAT PUMP WILL RUN YOU OUT OF THE HOUSE.

Just wanted to post an update and let everyone know that I had a technician come out to look it over and he says that it is the open limit switch thats gone bad. He was supposed to return this morning to replace it but instead he called and said that no one has that particular one in stock and that it will be tomorrow before he can get it ( just my luck! lol ). I would like to thank everyone and hope all of you have a great day!

I have a goodman GMP10-5 REV that the blower will not shut off, i think it may be the fan limit switch, can I test it and where is it located?

the older units have the limit mounted on the heat exchanger straight in front as u look at unit. try taping on unit . newer units are on a circuit board . just for the heck of it unhook the green t-stat wire on termal bloc on unit. if the blower stops then replace t-stat.

I HAVE A GOODMAN HEAT PUMP, MODEL AR30-1. I switched off the heat pump at the stat and the elements seem to be running heating up the unit... Also what is the brown wire coming from the wiring harness for...

The brown wire on a Goodman is tipically for the emergency heat option on your heat pump. First thing I would check is making sure it is wited correctly. Verify your stat is heat pump capable. Many of the cheaper stats only work for ac or just a heat pump. Anything beyond that would be a more serious electrical problem and should be looked at by someone with the proper training and tools.

I HAVE A GOODMAN CPL E30-1 , HOW DO YOU CHECK THE HEAT STRIPS ARE WORKING ? WERE WOULD CHECK THE TEMP AT ?HOW CAN YOU TELL IF THE HEAT PUMP IS WORKING RIGHT .WHAT IS THE COMMON THINGS A TECH SOULD CHECK...

First, you need to get the spec sheet for that unit from www.goodmanmfg.com, go to bottom, click on Partner link, then put in goodman for id, dealer for pass, go to InfoFinder in the Toolkit. under model, put CPLE, under lit type dropdown put spec sheet. Click on the RED SS number in the fourth column. In the spec sheet, print out the Expanded Heating Data sheet for your CPLE30. It shows the outdoor ambient temp, follow that column to the bottom and it shows the pressures you should have. They are very very close it unit is working correctly. It also has a DeltaT for airflow. So, now you can put stat at 1 degree differential so only heat pump comes on and check temp rise and pressures. If both pressures are low, you have lost some charge. As for heat strips, turn stat up 2 or more degrees or put it in Emergency heat. Then the strips should come on....sequencer may delay stages. Then you need to use amp clamp to see if individual heat elements are pulling amps. In E heat, you need to go online and get a CFM/Kw temp rise chart. It will show you what your temp rise from return to supply should be at your cfm with the amount of heat you have..i.e. 10kw, 15kw, etc. If it is cold out and your heat pump is running with no aux heat, the temp rise will get lower as the outdoor temp falls, so alone it will not be able to keep up.

Goodman with 2 thermostats, freezes in summer, no heat in winter

is the system zoned? if so maybe the zoning control board to the damper motor is wired improperly. when a system freezez its because of 1- restricted air flow across coil, (maybe dirty filter) or 2-low refrigerant charge. again could depend on how its zoned.

Goodman PHJK048 Heat Pump Package

ok...where to start.lol ....the thermostat is just a switch. It will tell the unit to run or not run.if you measure the temp with the heatpump running, the air is warmer than 68 but it feels cool to you because your body is 98.6.The unit will run more often and for longer periods when the temperature drops outside for a few reasons.First, your house has more of a load to heat, meaning you have more heat loss because of the difference in temperatures outside and inside.Second, your heat pump pulls heat from the outside air.The colder the air outside, the less btu's for it to pull.If you have anymore questions hillbuck29@aol.com Hope this helps,Dave

Goodman furnace model #GPO 125_4 REV 8 Installed 6/2/2002

Have you measured the temperature in the suppy plenum? Should be 140 to 160 max. If hotter, you have a blockage in the ductwork or vents closed. If within spec, bad circuit board.
