The problem you have is there is either something inside the closer keeping it from closing or the closer is worn out and has tightened up. You can take the closer off and see if you can get it to work without being attached to the door to determine what is causing the problem. Also if your door is in a windy area then that could cause it to stay open. If you can't figure out what's causing the problem then you can replace the closer with a new one. If i'm not mistaken they run somewhere between 10 to 20 dollars depending on where you go to buy one.

How do you adjust the tension for self closing doors

Questions moved from Cars and Trucks Category to Doors.

It depends on the type:

Hydraulic that fix at the top of the door? There are two screws, they are normally on the end. There are two, one says 'CLOSE' and the other says 'LATCH'. Close is the first one that comes into play when you let go of the door and then Latch take over and shuts the door to lock with just the right amount of force. The screws only need SMALL movements.

Or

Peeko - Type door closers. These are fixed in the centre of the hinge door edge and frame edge and join the door to the frame with a chain that looks like a bicycle chain. For those, you open the door, slip a small nail in the chain near the frame. Undo the fitting in the door. Turning the chain and fitting tightens or loosens the spring on the door frame.

Need a steel arm replacement part

adjust the backcheck. The pressure should increase as you get closer to the furthest point you want the door opened. You might consider a door stop as well.

My 1999 pontiac montana rear sliding power door will not work

hi there,

this can be stuck contacts on the door. better to check the sliding contact point for any dirt debris on the slide or it may need some lubricant for easily sliding.
