Question about Gateway 7330GZ Notebook
I got an old Gateway 7330 from a friend, and it didn't work. Well I took it apart and found out that the 3.06 GHz processor was faulty, so I replaced it with a 1.8 GHz processor that I had lying around. Well it works now, and I put it all back together just fine, but the power button doesn't work right... When I press the button, it does nothing. It is not the button itself, but I think rather the thing that holds the cable on the motherboard's end that is faulty. When I put pressure on it, it sometimes works. When there is no pressure, it never works. Would unsoldering it and resoldering it fix my problem? Please help, I would like to be able to use this. Is there a part I could buy, or some way that I would know for exactly where the problem lies so I can replace the part?
If you go to where the start button connects to the computer mother board and disconnect it. YOu can put a screwdriver across the two spikes coming from the board and it should start. That wil confirm that it is not a board problem.Next get a small battery test light ,or ohm meter and hook to the two wires from the switch. Press the switch. If it lights that everything is ok. If not you are down to the wires or the switch. Disconnect the wires for the bvack of the switch and test the switch with the light again w/o the wires. Works now=bad wires or connection. Does not work=bad switch.
