Question about Seagate STT320000A Travan Tape Drive

Open Question

Seagate Travan backup gives error code "333 Unexpected bus free".

Backup unit was installed in a new computer and was working fine. After about a week it started with a "hard tape error"; 1st on the Thursday tape- changed tape, seemed to remedy it. But now it is giving the above error code on the last 2 consecutive daily backup atempts. This is backing up 1 unit on a network. No other units are accessing the network while this is backing up. I do not know what the error message means. Thanks for your help; this is my "server" for my small office network and it of course is imperative that I back it up daily, reliably. I look forward to your help. Note I am using all new tapes.

Bought a seagate backup plus hard drive to backup files, installed on computer but cannot backup files, problem says could not be performed because of anI/O device error.

Connect the external drive to a different computer, and try to copy a few files to it. If you still get "I/O Error", then the unit has malfunctioned.

How to Clean a Travan 40

<p>Travan 40 tape drive, manufactured by the leading data storage and backup device manufacturer Quantum, uses the tape storage business to 40 gigabytes of data. I have a Seagate Tapestor 20GB tape drive. I have upgraded to a XP driver but the software does not recognize the tape media to do a backup.

Try to use a cleaning cartridge. If the tape drive is still not recognizing the tape media after you clean it then your heads are bad

Seagate STT63200P Win XP Driver

I would suggest you have to put it on a Windows 95 computer as I have a unit and the Driver should go with a windows 95 just to get your data.

Cheers

DLT V4 Driver

Most tape drivers are loaded from withing the backup software. Symantec and CA work like this. I'd start there.

If not you have to start the remote storage service and check in device manager to see what it defaults to and see if will find the device for you.

Backup starts before the scheduled time

Check the system time in the system BIOS, by hitting one of the Function keys. If this is not it, then make sure the time, date, and time zone are set correctly on the desktop.
