Hello there:
There may be a small leak in the compressor that may have leaked out the refrigerant or on of the lines may have a pinhole leak in it
I would first have the unit recharged using a recharge kit and than check for any leaks also make sure that all of the fins on the compressor in the back are not damaged and are clear if you have a water howe spray the entire back down real good and if none of this helps than i would susspect a faulty temperature regulator or switch ok?
so please try all of these things that i have mentioned and let me know how this goes for you
Best regards michael

Take the cover off the air conditioner and check if you are getting power to the compressor with a volt meter. Also when the air conditioner is running if the compressor is running it would feel warm to the touch and you would feel a vibration when you touch it.

If its doing it over night or in several hours, you need to check the thermostat. Turn it all the way to the warmest setting and listen for the compressor to shut off. If the compressor keeps running at the warmest position your thermostat is shorted. If you do hear your compressor shut off , and the thermostat is working, you are probably low on refrigerant.
