its an HP dv6000z. I think it is probably the switch for the fact that when I switch it the light doesn't recognize the switch, also I opened it up and tryed to manually switch it and when I did still nothing occured.

What is the make and model of the Laptop. I need that to let you know what is going on with it and why do you think that it is the chip or the switch?

Yes, try first to replace the wireless card. It is very easy to access and you should be able to just pop a new one in. Most times the switch is ok.

The wireless card is a pretty common replacement part, they can be replaced pretty easily. This is from HP, it explains how to rellace the wireless card, it is quite thorough, If you don't think you can do it then better to send it to them,http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/fastFaqLiteDocument?lc=es&dlc=en&cc=py&docname=c00273322

Wireless switch is broken cannot turn on wireless adapter

Dear Friend,

If the wireless switch broke, you might need a flash light and something very thin and long to turn it back on. Now, if the switch attached to the motherboard broke as well you need to think about getting another motherboard.

You might want to consider and external USB or PCDM wireless card if you cannot turn it on.

Good Luck!

Was using my Hp Pavilion dv7 laptop, suddenly turned off while the charger was plugged in. Turned back on then shut off again. Now my laptop wont even turn on, and there are no lights that even come on,...

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

Need info on replacing zapped T41 modem with new card. Is this a simple switch? Or do I need to call in the Mod Squad? Len

I'm not sure what you mean by the T41 modem. If you mean the phone modem the it cannot be replaced because it is part of the motherboard.
If you mean the wireless card, then this can be easily replaced. To access this wireless card, remove the ketboard. There are four screws securing the keyboard and these are labeled with a keyboard symbol. After removing the screws the keyboard can be lifted up. The wireless card is located towards the top LH corner of the laptop and is held in place with screws, it also has two wires (for the wireless aerial) attached to the wireless card.

Broken wireless switch... wireless is stuck on "off".

Im not sure if there is a workaround for that when the switch is broke but hold down the FN key and press the F4 key and see if that activates the wireless card. If not then you need to get that switch replaced. Hope it helps.

I can not turn on wireless to my hp pavilion zd8000

You have a number of options:

1. Make sure the wireless switch is in the "on" position. This means that the switch is slid to the right. If it is, and the light is blue, then the wireless is working just fine, you just need to connect to a wireless router. However, if the light remains orange...

2. If you have Vista, go into the start menu and right click on "Computer" (XP, right click on "My Computer" on the desktop or where ever you stashed it) and click on "Manage" in the drop down menu. After you do this, you will see a menu on the left, double click on Device Manager (6th item down). This will open another list of items. You need to go to "Network Adapters". This drop list will tell you whether or not the wireless card is being detected. Should say something like "Broadcam 802.11 b/g WLAN". If you see that, the computer is detecting the wireless card and your wireless should be working (however, if it is detecting it and the wireless light is still orange, check the switch again, if it is switched on, then you are about to have a motherboard problem). If the wireless card is not being detected...

3. You either have a HDD, wireless card, or motherboard problem (more often than not it is the motherboard, and you would be hard pressed to find one cheap). If you want to simply try to replace the cheaper parts first and hope that works, start with the wireless card, then go into the HDD, after that, obviously, the motherboard. But I will tell you from experience, that it is more often than not, a defective motherboard.

Fujitsu P1510 wireless card replacement

Some laptops have a modem or wireless card that clip onto the motherboard like how the RAM is fitted to the motherboard. This card is larger than the RAM and may have one or two wires connected to this card. If so you will be able to replace this card.

If the wireless is a chip and is mounted on the motherboard then it would be impossible to replace.
Your only solution to this problem is to buy a PCMCIA wireless card and insert into the laptop's PCMCIA slot or use a USB wireless device. You may have to go into the BIOS and disable the internal wireless device.
