I figured it out

All because activision wants to line their pockets with even more money, i can't play my rock band instruments on guitar hero. we were playing guitar hero when my better half brought rock band 2 kit home. so we didn't change the game, just tried to play guitar hero with the rock band instruments--to no avail.

Try returning it? I think guitar hero world tour controllers will work on Rock band TWO, but maybe not the other way round because guitar hero has one extra drum cymbal.

Ps3 guitar hero controller lights up two lights for controller numbers wont work any help?

From Activision's Support site:

The 2.80 firmware update causes the Guitar Hero instruments to connect to the Playstation with a high controller number. As a result Guitar Hero will not recognize the instrument at launch. To remedy this you will need to change the controller assignment in the Playstation 3 XMB system menu.

In the XMB go to Settings->Accessory Settings->Reassign Controllers. From here you will be able to change the controller number. Assign your first instrument to controller number 1 and increment the controller numbers for any additional instruments that you have connected. If you are using a microphone make sure to connect a standard PS3 controller before launching the game.

Can't use drums for rockband on guitar world tour

The instruments for Rock Band and GH:WT are compatible on the PS3 and the Xbox 360, not the Wii. Blame Activision, the creators of GH:WT - they went a different route with hardware for the Wii that made things incompatible.

Syncing with Rock Band.

From Harmonix spokesperson: "Support for the GHIII guitar peripherals in Rock Band on the Wii was not possible without Activision's permission. Therefore, any questions regarding lack of compatibility with GH III hardware should be directed to Activision."
