It sounds like it is broken. It really is not worth getting it repaired as it would cost more than buying a new one.

I can help you install a new one. I just need to know one thing. Does your motherboard handle ATA and/or SATA? I can figure this out if I get the precise model number of your motherboard along with the manufacturer's name.

Open the box (unplugged) and take the memory out. Plug it back it, if you turn it on and there are no beeps, the motherboard has gone bad. Only fix is to replace the motherboard, or replace the whole computer. If it does beep, the memory is bad; replace the RAM (memory) While you have the computer open look at the little can like objects close to the back opening of the computer. If they have brown goo on top of them, or around them, or if the tops of some of them are dome shape, the motherboard is shot. This was a common problem with some of the OptiPlex units.

My computer on button is flashing amber and won't tun on

The blinking orange light means that there is a hardware failure. This could be anything from the power supply, the CD/DVD drive, RAM, hard drive or even the motherboard itself.

To begin troubleshooting this, first remove the power supply and use another one that is known to be working (if you have a second computer in the house, use its power supply).

Still have the orange light? Unplug all non essential components, one at a time to see which is causing the failure (CD/DVD drive, Hard drive). If there are multiple sticks of RAM, you can remove all but one, and begin testing these one at a time.

If all the above does not uncover the failed component, then the motherboard is most likely the issue.

My computer won't read disks.

There's only two possiblities either your driver has been corrupted or the drive itself has failed. Try reinstalling the driver, first find or download the driver for your CD drive, when windows tell you it already has the best driver hit back and tell it to install the driver at the location where your driver is at. If this doesn't fix the problem your best fix is to buy a new CD drive, given the current cost of DVD drives this might be a good time to upgrade.

Wont read or recognise there is acd inserted

When you open my computer do you see the drive in the window? If the drive does not show up in this window you can check two things, check to be sure that the cable connecting the drive to the mother board is good. And the other issue could be that the drive itself has gone bad. If it is unable to read any cd's then you probably need a new drive. Be sure to put in several cd's to be sure it is not the cd disk.

Software problem

Check the drive!! Makse sure its reading disks.. If the drive is reading disk with no problem then the software is the culprit here.. The software not finding the drive itself is due to the software itself..
