Question about Memorex MMP8570A (512 MB) MP3 Player
The battery went dead in my Memorex MP3 player and I installed a new AAA battery. When I turned on the player I got a message that read: Incorrect format. reformat the player. How can I fix this? The music is still on the scan disk. I copied the files to my PC so I wouldn't lose the files.

you can download the Toshiba SD memory utilities from here; http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modItemList.jsp Just filter the results with "SD" and you will find several different downloads for either xp or vista. This will do the same as the Sigma Tel program, which appears to be unavailable online. Hope this helps - please ask again if you still have trouble :)

I also had problems with the error message “boot error.” So I thought time to buy a new MP3 player, but first let me try and upgrade the firmware. At first it would not work, so I figure make sure I had the music I wanted on my pc and just format it. I formatted twice. Then I finally download the website from the URL below and tried to upgrade it.
Then I installed the software on the PC and it installed a program that tried to upgrade the firmware. At first it would not work, so I looked at the directions which told me that the mp3 player had to be in an upgrade mode or something? The first time it failed so I tried again. So it had me hold down the pause button disconnect USB wire from the PC and slip out the battery (mp3 player) quickly plug the USB wire back into the PC while holding down the pause button and the firm ware upgraded. So far so good and I put over 100 songs back on and it is working. Hope this helps

Re-format it. plug it in and open my computer and right click on the mp3 player icon. the menu should have a "format" item. When you do this you will lose all the stuff you put in it but it will work. im not sure for how long. i just did it to mine last night.

I work for Memorex tech support. Our number is 800-919-3647.
You can't sync the Memorex player to iTunes, however, you can copy music from your iTunes library for use on your Memorex. First you must convert the music you want to copy into .mp3 format since iTunes uses a different format (AAC) as its default. Follow the instructions below to change the import settings in iTunes:
1. Choose Edit> Preferences, click the General tab, then click Import Settings.
2. Choose MP3 Encoder from the Import Using pop-up menu.
Once that's done, go back to your library and highlight the songs you want to convert. Once they're highlighted, right-mouse click and you'll see an option for Create MP3 version. This will not effect iTunes ability to play the music and if you have an iPod, it will not be effected either. After the conversion is finished, I suggest draging the songs you want for your Memorex player to a folder on your desktop. These .mp3 files can be copied onto your player and will play just fine.

If you're on XP, just plug in the player and wait until it says "Ok to remove", then hold play for 5 seconds, and it will switch to USB storage mode.

Testimonial: "It worked, thank you so much for your help. After working on it for two weeks, that one simple step finally got the ball rolling. Thanks again."
Mines doing this too - I reset by inserting a paperclip into the tiny reset hole on bottom right side of unit. Pain to have to do every time but it solves issue.
