Black square on screen of 19 inch TV

When I change channels or push any button square leaves, then in a couple of seconds it returns. It sits close to the bottom but blocks 3/4 of picture.

I have the same problem on my tv (a different brand and model). It goes away if I change chanel or volume but comes back. Is it related to the change in TV type?.

Check your closed-caption settings and be sure they are turned off. If captioning is set for text mode you can have this trouble. The TV blanks out a part of the screen for the text it never gets to display. Once captioning is shut off (or set for normal caption mode if you want to use it) the black box will be gone.

My 28-inch Konka used to do this all the time, and I was eventually told that it was the "closed-captioned" settings. This helped a lot but the problem is that this wretched TV resets the parameter at random in the middle of a program occasionally and I still have to then turn off the CC again. Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often now.

TV screen goes black but tv is on. But will stay on sometimes.

i have a 2000ish 32 inch trinitron Wega and i have had the EXACT same problems as you have, except mine was blacking out more and more frequently, but yes if u changes the channel or hit return onto the same channel you're watchin the picture wil come back, but not very long, about the longest it'll show a steady picture is 1/2 hr, but it's usualy going black within every 10-15 mins or so.

I took it to a Sony approved/recommened repair shop and aftet having a look i was told it would cost $200 cd including taxes to replace a 'vacuum tube' or something like that, i wish i could be more specific anout the part. I'm still considering whether or not to go through with the repair. I might just buy a working/used newer Tube Flascreen with HD for another couple hundred dollars. If there was a newer 2003+ 32 or 36" Sony that has a good track record I would love to hear suggestions. I don' trust flat panels, way too mny horror stories, and for every 1 i hear about there's probably 10-20 more.I'll give them another 5 years or so to get their acts together.

On the other had, if i do decide to get my 32" wega fixed i will post the results and the exact pt numbers of the pts used i the repair. Your problem is exactly the same as mine, to the letter. I'm a mechanic by trade, but i have a good feeling they're not going to give me correct pt # until i have payed them to fix it. Or else i'd order the part and install it myself.

Good Luck,
Aaron

Black square in the middle of the picture

You have the set configured to display "text 1 or Text 2" in the closed captioning menu. You will need to turn closed captioning off to get rid of this box.

A black box appears on the screen

The close caption feature most be on and you need to disable it to get rid of the black box,the close caption must be set in any mode for the box to come up,maybe text1 or text2.Go thru the menu options until you get to the CC feature, some remotes have a key to bring it up and disable it.Let us know if you need more information.
