Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
I was playing Battlefield on my PS3 and all a sudden it just stopped and shut off on its own. I have never had this problem before. i really dont want to send it to the SCEA because they will just try and send me a new one without all my music, pics, and save data on it. PLEASE HELP ME WHAT CAN I DO
The PS3s are getting super hot with new games. I noticed that with MW2 my fan would go on high much sooner than with previous games. Now im playing MAG and fan goes into super mode at start of game. Overheating seems to be big problem with new FPS games. they are pushing the limits of consoles and maybe the cause of alot of damage you must pay for. This happened to me 3 days ago. YLOD = Yellow light of death . Ive fixed it myself and ill show u how but I warn you its not for faint of heart. Everything i show u can be found searching youtube for "reflow ps3 ". reflowing circuit board is a service done in electrical repair industries usually in a oven designed for this specific purpose. (find em on ebay 500-1000$s). If you ps3 is out of warranty and u play new FPS AND have not had any problems i would remove your ps3 from the outer plastic shell so it can get proper ventilation. I did temperature readings with laser thermometer at random spots on circuit board i was getting temperatures of close to 600 F playing FPS for 3 hours with ps3 out of case so with case on it will probably get closer to 700-800 range which can melt the solder and components. If u already have YLOD and unit will not power back up you will need to reflow circuit board or send it into sony for repairs or replacement.

You could have also removed the HD. It use user replaceable on the side and held in by one blue screw.

This could be a problem with over heating of the system, the ps3 will shut its self down if it getts to hot to avoid damage to the cpu and gpu, the easyest option is to try and get a 3rd party cooler for the ps3 or if you have any tech knollage try cleaning out any dust around fans inside, this could include using a vacum cleaner to **** out the dust or a can on air duster which is a tin of air used to blow out dust ,
ether way dont open you console inless its out of warranty as opening ur ps3 will invauldate ur warranty and sony will not want to know and charge you a hefty fee
hope this helps a little cheers

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
