Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

Ps3 is having major graphical problems

I have a 60gb ps3 that i bought in july of 2007. While I am playing certain games, spikes and lines appear out of objects and characters on the screen. It is hard to describe. This is a minor problom in some games, but in others, the entire screen is almost completely filled with these anomalies. The games that give me this problem are: Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, Ghost Recon 2, Resident Evil 5 (the demo), Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia, BioShock, The Darkness, Fallout 3, and a few more that I can't remember. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
Thanks for listening,
Matt

my ps3 was doin the same thing o the exact same games and more .... it started getting worse and now im at the point where the screen freezes or is completely black with tiny red blue and green speckles all over ... the guy at play n trade told me the exact same thing dirty dozen did ... he tried to clean the dust and check everythig and it turned out that my graphics chip is damaged :(
i wouldnt mind if i could just get a replacement from the store i purchased the console from but waiting for the label to mail off my 3 kills me ... and the time it takes for it to get there get replaced or repaired and sent back !!!

This looks like its a problem with you graphics chip inside the ps3, first thing i would do is ring sony and see if you can have it fixed for free, if not try and clean up the fans inside the ps3 if they are inbeded with dust this will cause the ps3 graphics chip to over heat which would also give you this same problem, there are many videos on you tube to remove dust and open console but before you try this make sure you cant get it done for free because once the console has been opened u lose any warranty on that console, if dust is not causing it to over heat i would look into getting if fixed or replaced as the graphic chip canot be repaired if damaged as its attached to the main mother board and this means the whole board will need replacing

hope this helps a little you can find details of sony ps3 on there web site

Playstation 3 hard disk files corrupted???

hey ash,

ps3 Hard drive needs to be manually reformatted and checked for bad sectors.

as what youve said, you already formatted it and yet it still says there is a corrupt system file.

when i say "manually formatted" you have to clearly take the hard drive out and format it using another pc or ps3.

How to play ps2 games on ps3

Ok well here is the "Skinny" 1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version. 40GB doesn't support SACD.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.

60GB PS3 will play PS1 and PS3 games but not PS2.

this is a problem with some ps3's especialy the high GB ones like mine. they made it so most if not all of the ps2 games cannot be played to cut down on price and to leave room for all the memory. so you can still play ps1's but you cant play ps2's. sorry

My PS3 can't only PS2 games!!! 80028F17

Not all PS3s are able to play PS2 games - they started removing that functionality when they came out with the 60GB model. So if you have a relatively new PS3 (A year old or so), that's likely the reason.

60gb ps3 wont play ps3 games

The issue is the laser (actually has different diodes for blu ray, ps2 format and regular DVD.
Seems like in your case the only one that is burnt is the blu ray.
Send it back to Sony for repairs or if you do not have warranty purchase a replacement lens and install it yourself.

Error 80028f17

Error 80028f17 is a boot error and there is nothing you can really do about it, the disk is corrupted or burned (illegal copy) of the game. If it is legit, go back to the store and ask for another copy as it doesn't work.
