I have a HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One. I am trying to scan a text document into word or text file but the text I have is not readable. I think the ocr is not working. I installed the drivers again for Mac X 10.4 but the problem still continues.  A text like this is what I get: "H lnoqE HE W!l1 PIOl gU~)j" dl1l os puy "lEl1 dlp JO lno suoqnIos gU~ZEWE lSOW dl1l pdHnd SAEMIE dl1 dsnEJdq wopgu~)
    Any hints?

    Thank you

You need a program to recognize the characters in the image to be edited. try checking this list of OCR programs...but i think those are trial versions only.

My document won't give me ocr as an option for editable papers..will only scan as an image..

It's not the printer or scanner, it's the scanning software on your computer that enables OCR. Most free programs won't do OCR, You need something like the add-ons available with Adobe Acrobat.

When you scan something, the printer makes it's own folder that goes into My Documents. It will be in My Documents or My Pictures in it's own folder called Scans. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Alignment page prints every time printer is turned on. HP1315 on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Take the test page ( also called : alighnment page ) that always prints when you switch on the printer and place it face down in the scanner.

Then press the scan button on the printer itself.
(this is the button at the bottom of all the buttons on the printer/scanner.)

Make sure that the printer scans the test page.
( sometimes you press the butoon and it doesn't scan )
( it makes a scanning noise when scanning succesfully )

Then it will stop printing the test page ( alignment page ) ever again.

When scanning, the scanned page is not readable from a third of the page down to two thirds of the page.

It is important that the item you scan comes in close contact with the scanner glass. If the resulting scanned image is not clear, check to see that the item is in full contact with the scanner glass. The scanner uses optical character recognition (OCR) to convert text on a page to text that you can edit on your computer.
  • If you scan text but cannot edit it, make sure that you make the following selections during scanning:
  • Scanned text might not appear on your computer exactly as it appeared on the original, especially if the original contains faint or smudged text. For example, some characters might be incorrect or missing. As you edit the text, compare the scanned text against the original, and then make corrections as necessary.
  • To change text scanning options, click the Scan Document Settings button in the initial What are you scanning? screen.
  • The OCR software is installed by default when you install the HP Scanning software during scanner setup. If you use the Custom option when installing the software, you can choose not to install the OCR software. Try reinstalling the software using the default install options.
  • Email to jdiaz@coretec.us
  • If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
    Thanks, Joe
