This worked for me: hold down the stop/reset button til the indicator light near the on/off button starts cycling.  The color ink orange light remains on but I can still print black and white and scan as normal.  Good luck!

Don't use refill kits, they are no good in quality printers. Also the cartridges in the newer models have a chip in them that knows when the cartridge is empty. When it becomes empty, the chip has to be reset, and this is what those mall cartridge fillers do.

E, 1, 3 The ink may have run out. The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled since the ink level cannot be correctly detected. If you want to continue printing without this function, press the machine's Stop (Reset) button for at least 5 seconds. The machine considers as ink is full when a new FINE cartridge is installed, and then starts to detect a remaining ink level. If you install a used FINE cartridge, the indicated ink level of it may not be correct. In such case, refer to the ink level information only as a guide. I am trying to scan a document, however the black ink is empty. It only shows the error message that I should refill my ink. Shouldn't I still be able to scan documents?

Must be using PG830 or PG40 50?

For Canon, if either color or black cartridge is empty or out of ink, "Scanner" doesn't work.

That's why your scanner is not properly working.

It's all connected... That's Canon.

Are you refill your cartridge by yourself?
Try "ROADINK" inkjet refill kit. No drill or sharp needles are needed.
It's not only easy to refill, you can have quality printing.

Check out my youtube video, will find how easy refill can be done.

Have Canon printer MP210. Refilled cartridges recently, printer worked fine, then used scanner, printer worked ok but now doesn't want to print anything at all. Flashing yellow light (c) Have unplugged...

Try holding the stop/reset button down for about 10-15 seconds, its the button with the red triangle on it.
After refilling canon cartridges the printer still thinks that it is empty, the above method simply dis-ables the ink levels and continues the print.
I hope this helps, if so please rate my response Thank you for supporting the FixYa Community Regards GM

Some cartridges have to be reset when refilled so it indicate that the cartridge if full. Sounds like it wasn't reset.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

you cannot print only using color ink, you will be able to print again if you have your ink refill or replace, its a default setting to printer not to print if the black cartridge is emptry, you will continue to recieve messages regarding this black ink cartridge

Replaced ink cartridge and it still says low ink

There is no way to reset the ink levels on this type of cartridge. Therefore, your printer will always think refills are empty. You can choose on the dialogue box to "ignore ink levels" and run the cartridge until it is empty. This is just one thing you will need to deal with on refills of this cartridge type.

I refilled my empty ink cartrage, but the printer still says its empty and to replace the black. how do i reset it to say full?

without make or model number, cant do anything. Check to see if there is a chip somewhere on the ink cartridge. If so...your screwed. Some printer have a 'is this a new cartridge', follow the instructions.
