Question about HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I have had the same problems with this unit and on various machines running both xp and vista. Uninstall completely. Then, unplug machine from the computer. Download the full software solution and before running it, extract the software to somewhere on your computer and leave it there. Then run the installer normally but when asked to connect the device, skip and choose to install the device later. Complete the software install and then when it's finished, plug in the usb cable. The installer should pop up and begin to install the device. Open the device manager and manually choose the ALL the drivers for your unit by choosing the autorun.inf in the folder you previously extracted from your hp download. Upon completion of all the correct drivers, the hp install utility will complete.
I believe the problem lies with a mixing of native windows drivers and the HP drivers which are required for this software to work correctly.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I purchased my printer last August and it worked great. Then I had a problem with faxes jamming. After consulting with HP on live chat for several days (total of at least 10 hrs) they agreed to replace the printer. I received the new one in Feb and have had problems almost from day one. I did the live chats and then talked to a tech on the phone. They promised to call me back with a solution. Didn't happen! I sent a letter to HP and finally someone called and gave me to their "problem solver". She took over my computer (with my permission) and after 6 hrs on 2 different occasions, she finally came up with a way to scan using a microsoft program and a way to print reports from Quicken by using another driver. Now I am having problems with several of my software programs. The other problems I am having is everything prints as a mirror image. I got that straightened out and now it won't print at all. All of this is caused by the fact that this printer is not compatible with Vista. That was the first question I asked when I purchased the printer. Right now I am ready to dump HP but I have a new HP computer and new HP monitor. You would think they would do better than they are on solving these problems.

OK my guess was wrong. Here is the HP website to the VISTA 64 bit driver. I am sure that you have tried this already but dosconnect the computer. Uninstall the printer (software)for within wondows using the "add and remove". Put the printer on a different port, if availablem, Reinstal using windows "install printer and install a downloaded driver and they are always the most current, even if they don't tell you say so. I am sorry I can not be of more assistance but if HP can;t solve it and they built it, the they should take it back and refund you money, with only a few months use of it.
