Question about HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

3 Answers

Fatal error with hp L7780 I have a L7780 All-in-one pro (HP). Running Vista ultimate 64. Printer software loaded and printer worked fine for months, then I had to uninstall because it began acting up like yours - couldn't clear print spooler, etc. I've been working with HP on this problem for two months now - can you imagine two months without a printer? I am desperate and HP is unable to make any more suggestions. I have never had a problem like this that couldn'tbe solved. There are not very many posts about this on the web. You name it, I've tried it. Printer works on two other household computers. I have all the log files if someone is willing to help me trouble shoot. I'd be happy to send them to your email. I can't believe its come to this. I may have to buy another brand of printer (bummer) but would like to know first if it is definetely the HP software or my machine (also an HP - Tablet). Any assistance is appreciated!

It's my understanding that it was created to support Vista (per HP) but I can't be certain. The oddity is that the software loaded once previously with no issue. Also, one of the other computers that is running it is also a 64-bit. I'm still in limbo without a printer. Any assistance is appreciated!

Hi! thanks for the suggestions. I tried what you suggested in one of the rounds with the HP folks. It didn't work. The software won't leven oad to step 4. The fatal error happens between step 3 and 4 of the software loading so I can't even get to a point of configuing a different port because the software won't load completely. Have tried the download (full and basic versions), a new CD version they sent to me, dump loading it from my HD, etc. I appreciate your efforts!

P.S. I used to use the printer wirelessly.

You stated/wrote that it works on two other (household ) computers. My guess is that they are not runing VISTA 64, right. That leaves out the printer completely and places all the vault on an incampatability issue between MS and HP on VISTA 64. I am also guesing that this printer was not originally designed for VISTA?

I have had the same problems with this unit and on various machines running both xp and vista. Uninstall completely. Then, unplug machine from the computer. Download the full software solution and before running it, extract the software to somewhere on your computer and leave it there. Then run the installer normally but when asked to connect the device, skip and choose to install the device later. Complete the software install and then when it's finished, plug in the usb cable. The installer should pop up and begin to install the device. Open the device manager and manually choose the ALL the drivers for your unit by choosing the autorun.inf in the folder you previously extracted from your hp download. Upon completion of all the correct drivers, the hp install utility will complete.
I believe the problem lies with a mixing of native windows drivers and the HP drivers which are required for this software to work correctly.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I purchased my printer last August and it worked great. Then I had a problem with faxes jamming. After consulting with HP on live chat for several days (total of at least 10 hrs) they agreed to replace the printer. I received the new one in Feb and have had problems almost from day one. I did the live chats and then talked to a tech on the phone. They promised to call me back with a solution. Didn't happen! I sent a letter to HP and finally someone called and gave me to their "problem solver". She took over my computer (with my permission) and after 6 hrs on 2 different occasions, she finally came up with a way to scan using a microsoft program and a way to print reports from Quicken by using another driver. Now I am having problems with several of my software programs. The other problems I am having is everything prints as a mirror image. I got that straightened out and now it won't print at all. All of this is caused by the fact that this printer is not compatible with Vista. That was the first question I asked when I purchased the printer. Right now I am ready to dump HP but I have a new HP computer and new HP monitor. You would think they would do better than they are on solving these problems.

OK my guess was wrong. Here is the HP website to the VISTA 64 bit driver. I am sure that you have tried this already but dosconnect the computer. Uninstall  the printer (software)for within wondows using the "add and remove". Put the printer on a different port, if availablem, Reinstal using windows "install printer and install a downloaded driver and they are always the most current, even if they don't tell you say so.  I am sorry I can not be of more assistance but if HP can;t solve it and they built it, the they should take it back and refund you money, with only a few months use of it.

Error message 2753 MSI.dot4wrp message when trying to install HP Photosmart c4480

I had the same problem. I tried to install my new HP Photosmart 8550 printer onto my HP desktop, I am running on Vista 64 bit. Kept getting fatal error MSI.dot4wrp40 over and over again. Upset that my Windows installer was corrupted. I search the internet for this error and realized that this only comes up with NEW HP Printers and scanners. I went to Epson's website and downloaded a driver for one of their photo printers and downloaded the driver for the Epson Stylus Photo1400 Vista 64 bit driver, and guess what it installed I went and bought this printer and I am up and running again. Sorry HP I am jumping ship. The week before I tired to install this HP printer, I installed Print Shop Pro Publisher 23, Blackberry desktop, and Canon digital utilities which in fact all use Window Installer. All installed with no problem, and they are all working. I believe this error message has to be a conflict between HP and Microsoft's 64 bit OS only.... Google THIS ERROR and you will notice only HP comes up.

Fatal Error while install software for HP C8180 printer, Vistax64

Normal 0 Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Software install problem

You need to download the vista 64 bit drivers/software for this to work properly. You should be able to find them on the HP website under the support section for your product. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
