You can replace the hard drive with a standard PC hard drive. You can also remove the Tascam's drive and plug it into a PC to perform a low level format or diagnose it for problems.

Here's a link with some step by step instructions and photos which will help.

Just wanted to add that this can also be a problem with the power adapter. Basically what happens is that the power adapter fails to supply enough power to spin up the drive at the proper speed and the DP-01 interprets it as a hard disk error.

So you might try replacing the power adapter with one that has a matching rating as the originial to see if this fixes your problem. Might save you a lot of trouble and money.

My dv9700 came up with startup system error in windows 7..error wont allow this to boot and telling me to replace hdd..can i repair this instead

Chances are you need a new (bigger) Power supply in it and a new hard drive. The power supply did not provide enough power to the hard drive at some time recently and the files written to it by windows have been corrupted.

We understand that your problem is: A few weeks ago I posted a? with regard to my HP a8110n and the corrupt boot file. Well it dodn't solve the issue so I opened it up and found there was a clicking...

NO OS stated. XP?
That is correct. bad hard drives can click, that is the head servo
resetting, due to the brain inside finding gross errors.!
Seen 100s do that. (the hdd with proper power (voltages 5v and 12vdc at spec) only clicks 2 times, on power-up and power down
called head retraction and parking.
so clicking can be 2 things, bad hdd, or lack of spec power to the HDD. Okay, it's is complex electronics here. we use a VOLTMETER to check power. 5v/12vdc
If you ran the software for S.M.A.R.T, it bleeds red errors like mad.
I bet.

Ok question 2: DATA.
how to get my data from a near or dead HDD.?
true dead, there will be no data.
OR (hope not)
it's too late now, backing up before HDD failures is best.
But you can do that, if lucky can get all or 1/2 the data, only FATE decides how bad it is, the drive or bad data.
If running w10 , the data you find will be needed to be to the new ownership. (use use added app, called takeownership to cure that)

there are also, great software you can buy to get all data. (may)
hDD moved to other PC as external HDD is best (esata enclosures top that list)
google hdd recovery software.

you will have to do a fresh install on to a new SSD (best choice)
there well be no chance of cloning any corrupted data, ever.
hopeless that.

Dell latitude e6400 hard drive failures - is this a trend? I've had 2 out of 3 hard drives in 3 e6400 laptops purchased at the same time about 6 months ago.

have you tested the hdd? i believed dell system has quick test for ram and hdd. try this one, turn off system, press and hold on the Fn key then press once the power button while holding the Fn key. a quick test will appear to check the integrity of the hdd. if the hdd failure after the dell logo then like msgs such as no device found just try to reseat the hdd. this will not void your warranty since the hdd is a customer replaceable unit according to dell terms.

Hard drive not found in bios.

Thanks for using FixYa!

There are three possibilities why your HDD(hard drive) is not showing up. 1. Its already a bad drive (failing HDD mainboard). 2. Loose HDD cable inside your laptop. 3. Bad laptop sata port. Hopefully its just #2 but most of the time its #1. Bring your computer to a technician. They will be able to easily isolate the problem. I hope this helps.

Computer does not recognize simpletech

Assuming Windows, try the Device Manager and see if the (old) disk is listed there in the disk drives section.
If so, right-click it and select Uninstall. (do this while the new driver is disconnected)

That should force Windows to recognize and reinstall the new drive when you plug it again.

For other causes check out the external hard disk problems.

It means the harddrive has crashed. I have the same model. It is a manufacturer flaw. You can try saving your recordings on external devices or contacting Tascam directly.

There is an error with the HDD (Hard Drive)

It has either malfunctioned or the interface cable has been disconnected or not connected properly.
If the HDD still spins (listen for the spinup) then it has either malfunctioned or cable has not been connected properly.

When powering up my computer, I get a failure. Primary hard drive 1 not found Strike the F1 to continue F2 to run the set up utility. I think the power supply fan is not working. What do I do?

your system can not detect your primary hard disk which host the operating systems,so you check the data cable to the hard drive and the power supply to the hard drive for supply

This error code is very hard to fix. You may end up having to send it back to Olympus or buy a new one. But here's a few things to try and you may get lucky. Connect the remote, power on the player and hold down the heart, mode and play buttons on the remote at the same time. This re-sets the player. If this doesn't work, remove the back cover. There are 4 small screws that hold the back plate on. Once the cover is removed, unplug the battery. Plug it back in after 30 seconds. The player should re-boot. You can also try disconnecting the hard drive and reconnecting it. Unplug the battery before disconnecting the hard drive. If none of these suggestions work, you may be out of luck. i know of no other ways to fix this error code.
