Stripped gear I installed a new gear and it seemed to work perfectly, 10-20 times, then quit, and when I inspected it the gear was stripped again. What is causing the gear to strip?

Try opening and closing your door by hand with the motor detached (detach it by pulling on the rope) It should open and close easily without a lot of effort. If it catches or is too heavy (possible broken spring) it will strip the gear. The door has to be working properly before you can attach an opener to it. If you lift your door up about waist high and let go of it . It should not go up or down but should stay in that position, This tells you that the springs are correctly adjusted

Door dont want to open

Could be a stripped nylon gear , make Shure your sprocket is spinning on top , If its not and you hear the machine running but don't see anything moving then it would be a stripped gear , They charge about $100 to put one in so you must weigh if it's better to just buy a new machine at about $129 and up along with installation of about $120, If your machine is more then 15 yrs. old then invest in a new one , if its not that old then you might want to have the gear replaced which is the cheaper route and your new gear will last as long as your last one! Good luck , I hope I was able to help you in some way , Sincerely Glenn

Motor is running but the chain is not moving. When I assist it moves a few inches then stops both directions. Almost as if teeth are boken in a wheel.

You are correct. There is a gear drive system and the gear is stripped. you can have the gear replaced and not have to purchase a new lift.

The opener will only click when any of the remotes or buttons are pushed to operate it. It would only cycle open a small amount then just stopped working all together. I checked the all of the wire...

You may have a broken door spring or a stripped drive gear. The gear is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It will be obvious if it is bad. There is an LED just to the left of where all those white wires go. Check to see if it is flashing a code and post back. Random flashing of this light is normal but you will be able to tell if it is a code. It will flash a number of times then pause and then flash again.

I did like this and it works but only at max 0.5m distance of the opener engine, batteries are brand new

Check your door springs and the drive gear. The gear is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and may be stripped.

Motor runs...chain doesn't move and door will not open

Many of these openers use nylon gears and can easily be stripped. Remove the cover to the main motor drive and see if the gears are stripped.

Craftsman 1\2 hp clicks, motor wurrs for 1 sec', but doesn't open

You have a stripped gear on the opener. Take off the cover on the motor. The bottom of the cover will be filled with white shavings. You can repair this with a "liftmaster gear and sprocket assembly".

Stripped Gear on Liftmaster

how handy are you. can anyone do is a silly question. a blind person with no hands could not do. you need a socket set, hammer,screwdriver/allen wrench. kit costs $25-30 dollors. Gears will last as long as originals, not one year. It will take you 2-3 hours for a first timer. Takes me 30 minutes to rebuild unit once I take down and 20-30 minutes to reinstall, if you can change a washer or install a faucet, you can do it. what do you lose vs. what can you save.
