Re: MY fan only spins at the startup screen
If you are running with no fan, you will burn out the processor, stop and send that puppy in for service, please do no attempt to fix it at this point, you will be lucky if it has not burned out . I do this all day, and I take big risks but no cpu cooling is doa, leave it and send it back to the manufacturer, if it's off service or warantee, take it and get an estimate, then if you are going to toss it if it's not on warantee and it's too expensive to fix, then you can mess with fixing it

Hi, Try logging into safe mode by pressing f8 during your pc startup, once the menu becomes available select safe mode and press enter, next let the pc load until you get the user selection screen. select administrator, once you enter the account go to control panel and find administrative tools, select local users and groups and enter it, next find your user name, right click on it and click reset password. This should work for you.
Wait Black Screen? AFTER you changed the fan... hmmm... I think I know what the problem is. Okay solution one; You might of hit a wire or cord in the computer when you changed out the fan. Two: You might have the virus 223, get it fixed and it should be going again! Hoped this helped! :D
Try starting the computer in safe mode. Turn on the computer and once the COMPAQ screen clears press F8 a few times - don't hold down the key however. Winodws stops loading at teh Startup Options screen (black, text only). From that menu use the cursor keys and ENTER to select "Safe Mode". Once Windows loads (it may look humungous!), login as the Administrator (which should now be visible). Use this account to reset your forgotten user password. Restart once complete - the computer will automatically start normally.
Most likely the hard disk has just died - try to access the BIOS and see if it's still recognized. For that ress the blue ThinkVantage button when the message "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button " is displayed and then select Start setup utility . If nothing appears on the screen then the defect is in the motherboard - you will need to take it to a service center to determine if the board must be replaced.
Step 1: Shut down your PC completely. Step 2: Turn on the Power button. Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that screen but you end up reaching the Blue/Black screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.) Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Last know good configuration". Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER
if this fails then try repairing it from recovery console.
Insert the OS CD and boot from CD.
During Startup, select Recovery Console from the startup options menu.
When you are prompted, type the Administrator password.
