Question about Toshiba SD-3990 DVD Player

DVD player won't play DVD, says "load"

I have a Toshiba SD3990 player. When I try to play a DVD, the player just reads "load". I have tried several DVDs that have been previously played on this machine and the same statement appears. What can I do to fix this?

The unit can recognize that a disc has been loaded but can not read the contents. This can be as simple as a dirty lens or more drastic like failing optics. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to correct the problem and a music CD will play OK, then the optics are failing. DVDs require more laser power to read than a music CD.

I thought this was my problem too. But after messing around with it for a while. I realized that it had a DVD stuck inside it, well it finally came out with another DVD under it. And Now is working perfectly again. YEAH!

Dvd in player but display says no disk

Check the regional code of the DVD you want to play. It is at the back of the DVD cover. It should be compatible with the regional code which your DVD player can play. If they are not tallying the disc will not be read

I insert a disc. It loads, then either 1 or 2 shows in the display, but nothing functions and the disc will not play. It is a region 2 disc I tried

\usually when a disc won`t play ,it just displays "No Disc".

Is the disc matching the dvd code?
Is the region code correct?
Have you checked what discs the dvd will play, in front of manual.

If those are ok the dvd must have condensation in it.
Place in a warm room, turn on and leave for 2-3 hrs
Then try again fingers crossed for you.

Will not play all DVD's

Try a dvd lens cleaning kit. This may help.
It could also be the laser itself. Newer DVDs require a very strong laser to read them.Older ones do not.
You can pick up a cleaning kit at Wal mart for about 10 dollars.Hope this helps

I've had the same symptoms on the last two Sony DVD's that I've rented. I managed to get around this by hitting one of the menu buttons after the loading message stopped.
