Question about Hitachi hts548080m9at00 80 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

HDD is cactus, what are replacement alternatives for the OEM?

I have a dell latitude D600 with the Hitachi Travelstar ATA/IDE hdd (HTS548080M9AT00 - 80GB ) and the HDD has just died :(

Can I buy any ATA/IDE as a replacement?? I have removed the connector pin etc from the old hard drive to use with the replacement.

I have only been able to find second hand ones locally and would prefer a new HDD...

Any suggestions?

You can use any 2.5 inch ATA/IDE drive as a replacement. Notebook hdd's are a smaller size than regular desktop hdd's. You can find a good idea online at stores like tigerdirect.com or newegg.com. Hope this helps & please rate this answer fixya. Thanks.

Unless Dell has the upgrade for the bios to include the larger hardware you are going to be in trouble, I would go online to Dell and check for upgrades to your model if they still support it. The other option is contact customer and technical support to see it they can give you a alternative solution.

Backing up the Hard Drive

I take it your hard drive is IDE. Most enclosures only support 3,5" inch harddrives with either SATA or IDE interfaces. A notebook's HDD can have the IDE interface but it's way smaller than the standard.

There is an option however, it isn't necessarily an enclosure. You can look for the A.C. Ryan uDrive. It's a USB device which allows you to connect harddisks or optical drives from three different interfaces without the hassle of building in the drive in an enclosure.

If this is what you need, check this page:
[A.C. Ryan uDrive]

You'll need to connect your harddrive to the 2,5 inch drive connector on the device.

I hope this is what you were looking for.
Let me know if this solved your problem.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen
