I turn it on and it works and runs just fine. it has froze once in the past few weeks and in those few weeks it has also become loud. it sounds like a fan is going bad because it makes a loud noise that sounds like a fan. it has to be a fan or something of the sort because when i turn the console off after playing it for a while it will stop. but it doesnt stop immediately. it gradually slows down and finally stops so that's why i think it's a fan or something like it.

1st DO NOT EXPOSE THE BLU-RAY FOR ANY REASON - You run the risk of blindness and radiation exposure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please advise what FirmWare Version you are currently running on. You can find this under;
Settings>System Settings>System Information.
Once I have this info I will provide you with the best fix if needed but It is probably down to out of date drivers. There have been a number of changes to the blurays drivers recently and if these havent been updated then this will most likely be your problem. To solve this all you need to do is take your system online and download the newest FirmWare update. - There are people who NEVER use the system online for different reasons. Since you brought the system BluRay has gone through 4 upgrades. Any BluRays you buy now wll likely be incompatible for playback with the drivers you have on your system.
If you need any further advice on getting online with thew PS3 please post it as a new issue and I will help you - but the PS3 talks you through it to be honest
