When I try to access anything on my desktop Iget a security alert message from Wndows xp 2012. It then gives me choices - to register or continue to browse without security. Whatever I choose it...

Hi Welcome to FixYa!
Pretty much, you do have a spyware infection on your computer. Its a rouge or fake antivirus software that is pretending do be a legitimate software that displays numerous alerts about your computer's security. However, this situation is invented and the files 'detected' in most cases are harmless your system files that can't be removed because they are needed for a normal computer's functionality. To scare you into thinking that your machine is infected, it will ask you to buy their software. Thus, trying to steal your credit card information once you do so.
Be sure what type you have because that Windows XP 2012 has different variants. refer to the links below:
Windows XP Antispyware 2012 Windows XP Total Security 2012 Windows XP Security 2012 Windows XP Antivirus 2012 Windows XP Internet Security 2012
Once you know what is the exact malware that infected your computer, you could follow the removal steps on those links. I would like to inform you that deleting some items on the registry could cause instability to the system so I would suggest you back up your important data first.
You could also try running some automatic malware removal tool like Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware. Download those files on the links below:
Malwarebytes: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html SuperAntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispyware.html
If all else fails, again backup your files and consider in reinstalling Windows on your computer because the malware could already scattered and infected some of the main system files for Windows

Hope this could help a lot!

I HIGHLY suggest using "Avira" anitvirus for your computer, it's extremely dependable, accurate, as well as being very light on your computer's resources (memory usage).

Vista is slow

The slowness of Vista depends on the components that you have for the computer. Did you buy your computer with Win Vista installed? If you upgraded your computer from XP to Vista, you have to make sure that it is covered by the system requirements of Vista.

If you have a brand new computer with Vista installed in it, then there could be a little glitch on the program. I've used different kinds of Vista (Home Premium, Vista Business and Vista Ultimate) but none of them worked slow. If that's a brand new computer, I would suggest to contact the manufacturer or the reseller.

Have a great day!
