If it new there will be only a few icons on the desktop. In the bottom right of the desktop, the Tray Notification Area, you should see, You didn't supply your OS?, a Network Icon, click on it and open Available Wireless Networks. Your Sylvania Notebook is very light on support, I can't find a user manual.

Your OS should have an icon on the desk top that says WIFI Power, it is blue in color and this icon turns the WIFI on and off. When the button says off, the WiFi is on, the idea is that it is waiting for you to turn it off. If that is not on your desk top, turn the machine over and look for a small hole 1in diagonally right of the data plate. insert a tooth pick in that hole a depress gently to reset your machine.

It is looking for a password (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computer icon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOT connected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up, then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name of your WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another window opens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is provided automatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "Network Key", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This "KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your server computer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on it's back and using a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally from the right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everything including the WiFi RT28701 driver.
sometimes this driver gets confused. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing

On the left side of the main screen, you will see an icon that says "WI-FI Power". That's the switch to turn it on. When you click it, a little box will appear that says "turn on" when it's off and "turn off" when it's on.

But you have to do more than that. Next, I suggest to Google "digitalgadgets.com". Find "Sylvania products", click on "7 inch netbook support" and follow directions.

For # 4 you will find your "hot spot" name". Click connect.
For # 5 you may have to call your "Internet Service Provider" (Charter, AT&T or whoever you pay for your internet-to get your "network keys", etc. Then click ok.

Next be sure you go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, General and then complete "User Agent (requires Browser Restart)" by selecting:

"Default" (same as Windows XP)" or
"Same As Pocket PC" or
"Windows CE"

I selected "Default" and was off and running.

Please try and follow the detail below.

It is looking for apassword (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computericon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOTconnected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up,then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name ofyour WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing AdditionalInformation When I try to signon with the red X showing, I get "The page cannot be displayed If I thendouble click on the icon down in the right corner I elucidated above, RT28701opens up to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) with all zeros in the IP addressfield, and Subnet Mask, with no entries in the default gateway. That is a clueto me that the automatic sign on has not found a viable network, or needssomething else. If I then click on Wireless Information tab, the list ofavailable networks, appear in the box. The machine keeps trying to associate myprevious entered name site with my preferred site and tells me the signal isgood, but it cannot link up. This is a signal to me that it has lost my NetworkKey or that the softwarehas failed or both. I then click on advance and delete my preferred network andhit OK, this will force the software to ask me for my network again, and noticethat the preferred is missing. I click on the name of my network again and thenhit connect., then the Wireless Network properties window opens up and I caninsert my Network Key again after I uncheck the "The key is providedautomatically" box. I enter the key and hit the OK button. I still do notget a connection, so I reboot the machine, and wait for about 30 seconds andthe machine synchs up because the little RED X under the icon has disappeared. Now the machine will hook to the internet as long as I want to, but sometimeswhen I turn the machine on it will not synch, so I go through the abovesequence again. The secret is once you have entered your key and ask for themachine to synch up you have to reboot. Why? I do not exactly know, but Isuspect that the WiFi driver looses it You may also wantto look at the TIP http://www.fixya.com/support/r7679654-sylvania_syneto7526_wirless_keyboard To make your knowledge complete

Sylvania synet7wid-r will not load

install your devices separetly, this means do NOT have an autoload installation , so you have to install the driver(s) probably via an available zip/rar package. Then disconenct the computer from the internet and install the updated drivers via the unzipped drivers package

I've got a sylvania netbooklet model# synet7wid. Need help getting onto our home network (cable modem with Belkin wireless router)

Try resetting the router (unplug for a few minutes) next --be sure the wifi switch is enabled on the netbook---next---go to CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK CONNECTIONS--right click oin your wifi card and choose properties--highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL and choose properties and be sure "OPTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY" is checked--Does the laptop "SEE" the router?
You will need your SSID to logon to the router(internet)
