Windows95/WinNT Driver for IBM PS/2 Adapter A for...

By Cato - usenet poster

Sorry

Since a while I am looking for Windows Drivers for a IBM Microchannel
Ethernet Network Card a "IBM PS/2 Adapter A for Ethernet". But unfortunaly
the search was not successfull. So my last hope is this posting. Maybe
sombody is knowing where I can get the Driver

Type: IBM PS/2 Adapter / A for Ethernet Networks
SMC 8013EP/A
MCA ID EFD5
IBM FRU 92F0005

When I install Linux on that Machine, the Card is using a SMC 8003/8013
Driver and is detected automaticly in Linux
Windows95 is offering a SMC 8003/8013 for MCA, but when I use this driver
ist will not detect the Card. And with the Windows 95 Driver a I'm not able
to set the correct Adresses in the Driver Setting (my Card required IRQ10
(no probleme), I/O 0x0800 (not possible in Win95) and Base Memory 0xcc000 -
0xcdfff (no problem)

So any Idea

Hi Tim !

Yep. Did it.

The modified NETSMC.INF however exceeds what AOL accepts as maximum message
length ... Aargh.

I'll send it directly.

Very friendly greetings from Peter in Germany

Hi Struan,
although the hardware for the two versions of the IBM PS/2 Adapter/A
(Id.s EFD4/EFD5) should be essentially identical to one of the WD/SMC8013
(Id.s 61C9/61C8) versions the POS Id.s are different, resulting in the W95
driver's failure to "detect" the WD/SMC version. The Linux driver apparently
doesn't care about the POS Id. and most probably just detects the hardware
via I/O probing.
It *should* be possible to create a patched NET?????.INF file to enable
the SMC driver to be used and also correctly reflect the IBM versions'
configuration details as per its *.ADF file, but it's a non-trivial
exercise.
Perhaps someone else has already done this?
