When I insert a disc the drive spins at a very fast rate (real fast!) but the system won't or can't read the disc. It just continues to spin. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Thanks for any help. This is an Xbox 360 purchased 07/2008.

Here is the process for troubleshooting this specific issue:
First remove your disc from the tray. I assume you have already done this.
Ensure your faceplate (the front of your system) is on correctly. Sometimes these can become loose and off kilter. Press the two edges firmly with your hands and "push" it into place.
Push the eject button. Although it hasn't worked in the past, adjusting the faceplate may correct the issue.
If that doesn't work, move the disc tray drive gently from left to right when it is open. Again, be gentle-- what we're trying to do here is slightly adjust the disc tray in case it isn't entering your system properly.
Still not working? Time to send it to Microsoft for repair. You can find all of that information on their official support site. Click here for more details.
The most likely situation you have here is that the cd drive lens isn't reading, just because with a gamecube, it relies on that lens to detect if there is a disc inserted. Your best bet is to try and clean the lens with a que tip and some rubbing alcohol. Be gentle, only very gentle wipes back and forth in a circular motion, then dry it the same way. If that doesn't work, I can give you some tips on how to rip the thing apart and see if it is a connection inside somewhere
This is a common problem on the PS 3 unfortunately and is caused by a faulty blue-ray drive. Unit will have to go back to Sony for service. However - if you are confident with electronics there are several videos on YouTube showing how to replace the drive if you choose to order it and do it yourself.
Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks
Take a can of air and blow some air gently into it. Could be a dust problem on the laser. After this then try and load the game again, if it doesn't work still, then its a weak laser and you'll have to get the drive replaced
