Tip & How-To about 791XV The 791XV is a 2-way Security and Remote Start system. Th
We all know that cold and heat causes stuff to expand and contract.
On the alarm is a key security bypass circuit for remotely starting the motor and this circuit has an adjustable resistor ( pot ) ( trimmer potentiometer )
it looks like this one , or they may have used a different type , but when they put them in , they also put a type of glue on the pins and the screw that adjusts the resistance on the "pot". so durring the cold months and reheating of the inside of the vehicle , that glue is expanding and contracting and moving the screw on the "pot" that adjusts the resistance , to match the key input. ( also age will dry up the glue)
to stop this from happening or to prevent this from happening , simply "remove the glue from the screw" , and make sure that the wires connected to it are good , then also make sure that it is secured to something so that it does not get knocked around and the screw gets hit and loses its correct set value.
this "pot" may also need to be replaced , testing of the "pot's" value and or its capability of holding that value while being bumped around , ( lightly tap on the screw with the ohm meter attached and see if its value jumps up or down , if it does replace it)
make sure all plugs, connections, are good when checking this and that the fuses attached to lines of the alarm are not blown.
