Remote startup problem tip

We all know that cold and heat causes stuff to expand and contract.
On the alarm is a key security bypass circuit for remotely starting the motor and this circuit has an adjustable resistor ( pot ) ( trimmer potentiometer )

it looks like this one , or they may have used a different type , but when they put them in , they also put a type of glue on the pins and the screw that adjusts the resistance on the "pot". so durring the cold months and reheating of the inside of the vehicle , that glue is expanding and contracting and moving the screw on the "pot" that adjusts the resistance , to match the key input. ( also age will dry up the glue)
to stop this from happening or to prevent this from happening , simply "remove the glue from the screw" , and make sure that the wires connected to it are good , then also make sure that it is secured to something so that it does not get knocked around and the screw gets hit and loses its correct set value.
this "pot" may also need to be replaced , testing of the "pot's" value and or its capability of holding that value while being bumped around , ( lightly tap on the screw with the ohm meter attached and see if its value jumps up or down , if it does replace it)
make sure all plugs, connections, are good when checking this and that the fuses attached to lines of the alarm are not blown.

it starts and runs, than shuts off 3 seconds later? i havent tried anything yet, and it was installed in 2002. jeep grand cherokee.

Do you have anti-theft system bypass module installed? Transponder key bypass? Try unlocking the doors with your factory Jeep remote (turns off alarm) and leaving the gray transponder key in the ignition cylinder. Then try activating your remote start. Sounds like one of the factory anti-theft systems is still active. Basically if the car's computer doesn't want it to run, the car won't run. You have to fool the car into thinking it is OK to start and stay running without the key and anti-theft device deactivated. You need to leave a transponder key in the vehicle under the dash to bypass that system. You can get a generic one for about $20. You MUST have 2 original gray transponder keys in order to program a third. There is a sequence of putting one key in the ignition, then the second, then the new blank key so the cars computer knows to allow that key also. If you do not have 2 original keys, then you need to go to someone that can program properly like dealership or some locksmiths or alarm shops. Then they usually charge about $100 for a second key. You don't have to have the key cut. That way if someone finds the spare transponder key in the vehicle, it wont turn the ignition cylinder. The anti-theft bypass module (factory alarm bypass) runs about $25. Bulldog Security or JBS model 791 should work for your vehicle. If you live in an area where car thefts are common, you may not want to bypass these factory security measures.
Hope this information helps.

remote start issues with 93 acura legend l base 4 door

Generally there are two types of factory ignition key security types one creates a circuit when you put and turn the key(these generally have a chrome nipple on them which creates the contact)and the other type is an approximity type(most common)if its the approximity type you can test this by trying to start the car(with the remote) and hold the ignition  key as close to the ignition barrel as possible, if this works let me know and i;ll pass on the next step.If not you may need a bypass module.please provide more details about the car and the alarm.(model etc)

Viper 771 Remote start/Alarm

the viper alarm is malfunctioning , it is supposed to bypass the key ignition and or chip in the key to allow it to start , you will need to look for a reset button( under the dash and just two wires going to the button)( stuffed under the dash ) ( not the switch) , this should let you start it but if the alarm components that control that bypass is to far gone then this will not help and the alarm will need repair , replaced or removed
