You may need to RESET your PRO-2043 before it will perform properly for you. You can find instructions for the RESET procedure and programming instructions here:

Bearcat scanner lockout on and i want it off

You didn't provide a model number, so this response is a little generic and applies mainly to late model Bearcats. To release an individual programmed channel from lockout, stop the scanner on that channel (select and press MANUAL) then press the Lockout (L/O) key. Any unprogrammed channel, displaying 000.0000, will show as locked out. Programming a frequency into it automatically releases the lockout. If all channels are showing as locked out you may need to reset the scanner. The reset procedure varies my model, so I'll need the model number to describe the steps.

I have had my pro-95 for 8 years with no the trunking will not work...please advise

Your scanner may have had a logic "hiccup" for any one of many reasons, and a simple RESET may restore the trunking function.

RESET (will not wipe out frequencies or other programmed data):

- Turn the scanner OFF, and then then ON again.

- Insert a pointed object (paper clip, pen point, etc.) into the RESET opening on the side of the scanner, then gently press and release the RESET button inside the opening.

If the RESET doesn't solve the problem, you may need to INITIALIZ the scanner.

INITIALIZE (this action WILL delete all programmed data)
Welcome To Dual Trunking appears.

- Press 0 then 1 while Welcome to Dual Trunking is displayed. Initializing Please Wait appears for about 2 seconds.

Do not turn off the scanner until the initializing process is complete. When complete M000 will appear on the top line of the display, and Bank 0 Ch 0 will appear on the bottom line.

Hopefully one of these steps will restore the trunking. If not, the scanner may need professional help.

Cant get off lockout

If a channel does not have a frequency programmed into it, it will display 000.0000 and the L/O icon. Programming a frequency into the channel will automatically release the lockout.

To release lockout from a single channel, select that channel and then press the L/O key.

To unlock all programmed channels, select all frequency to ON, then press and hold the L/O key until the scanner responds with 2 beeps.

For a full reset of the scanner, press and hold the 2, 9, and HOLD keys while powering up the scanner. The reset will take about 3 seconds, and will be confirmed with a display of CLEAr. NOTE: this will reset the scanner to its original factory settings, and will delete everything that you've programmed into it.

How do i reset frequencies on a scanner /delete frequencies

You listed your question in the PRO-2096 section, so this response applies to that model. If you have a different scanner, please let us know the make and model.

The PRO-2096 is an advanced scanner capable of monitoring both single frequency conventional systems and advanced trunking radio systems. Programming methods are detailed and lengthy and cannot be reproduced here. For specific programming instructions, please see the scanner's operating manual, which can be downloaded/printed here:

If you have questions regarding a specific feature or problem with the scanner, please let us know.

Programing for uniden bearcat scanner bc 144xl

danval, I looked up a pic of your scanner and it is pretty straightforward. If it is the 16 channel I was looking at, here is the step by step programming.
1- Push manual button to go to the channel you want to start programming.
2- Enter the freq number in.
3- Push the E button to enter it in the memory.
4- To review what you programmed, push the Review button.
5- Use manual button to step to next channel and start over from #2
That should get you started with the scanning hobby.
The scanner has a Priority button that when activated will stop scanning and go immediatly to the priority channel if someone keys their mic.
If you need freq's (or more of) for your area, go here and click on your state and county and it'll give you a complete listing.
Hope this helps you out, let us know,, Mechanic
