My cdrw/dvd drive does not read dvds recently. It was ok previously and I would appreciate if someone could help me to rectified the problem. Thanks and regards

p/s no changes was done to the laptop before this problem arises.
My hp Pavilion dv5000 has this philips installed. It started "skipping" sound and eventually would not play CDs or DVDs. I suspect the firm ware. Can this be found.
