Question about Poulan Wild Thing 2375 18" Gas Chain Saw 2.5 Cuin

1 Answer

Poulan chain saw after carb rebuild.

I rebuilt the walbro carb on my chain saw. It starts and runs fine but tends to die at high rpm under load. You have to feather it to keep it running. (move the throttle in and out) Once it dies it will not start until cool. I tried adjusting the high mix screw. Does not seem to make much difference. Start at 1 1/8 turn all the way to 3 1/2 turns. My weed eater does the exact same thing.

Yes there is two. High mix and low idle. I have adjusted both per above. Idle is fine for the most part.

I can't get it up in high rpms just dies, when given gas and it will only run with the throttle About 1/10 open but once I try to move any adjustment hi or lo it just dies.

Most of carburetor has three buttons to adjust. L (low), H (high) for fuel injection at low and high speeds. There is also a minimum (the chain must be stationary if it is well tuned). The chainsaw is set at low rpm throttle with screws ( L ), and its vivacity is set at high speeds ( H screw ). In the beginning is good put both to set at 1.5 turns from full closure. And then, if the chainsaw starts, you can adjust a carburetor work. Careful with adjusting with H due to high speed.

It is running lean, they always need to run a little on the rich side free running, once the engine is loaded it will then need the excess fuel, it runs ok without the bar and chain because there is no load, start by replacing the fuel filter in the fuel tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for signs of fuel leakage, replace if reqired, if the carb has standard adjuster screws, increase the H screw by 1/4 turn out ( anto clockwise ) this will richen the mixture.

If the chain runs at idle, or tries to turn when cranking the saw, then there is an issue with either the clutch drum bearing or the clutch spring has become weak, to get to both of these components you need special tools, the tool to remove the clutch is part no. 530031112, and the tool to adjust the carb screws is part no. 530035560, the L screw will adjust from idle to half throttle including acceleration, the H screw will adjust the full engine speed

Poulan Wild Thing and Wood Shark Saws try to run, but stall down.

They could be sucking gas from the base gasket, head gasket or the bearings. Also, Check your flywheel very wheel and your armuter, if either are rusty then they need some sand paper to help create spark. There are rebuild kits and they are cheap. I always tell my customers to fix there older machines cause the new ones are **** and they leak everywhere and if anything brakes they are REALLY expensive to repair. You can get a rebuild kit whole machine for about 65 dollars

2375 ''wild thing'' poulan saw hard starting after carb rebuild

Through trial and error on fairly new Poulin Pro, found that the usual 3-half turns for both high and low was too much (flooded) (Used to be good starting point on weed eaters years ago. So, turned both all the way in, and only backed out 1-full turn. (2-halves) Saw fired up perfectly, and ran wide open just fine. Try that.
