Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV280 Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Sony TRV-260 Has No Power

Camera was stored and discovered in a box. Bought new charger set and battery for it. When the battery is snapped in place, nothing happens. I see a DC input slot below the battery but we have no cord to fit it. 1) Do we need a separate adapter to charge the camera? 2) If not, any ideas why it will not turn on with a new battery fully charged? 3) Internal fuse anywhere?

Thanks,

Jim and Shirley

Tried the pencil eraser-no luck. We do not have another camera to try the battery in. Do not know anybody who has one either.

Please confirm new battery on another Sony camera before suspecting your own camcorder.

Use a firewire cab le to connect to the computer. Then open Windows Movie Maker to capture. With Digital-8 you may have to start the camera manually. eg. push the play button on the camera

Hi i have a sony dcr-pc3 my wife bought it in 2000 and it never holds a charge the longest we get is about 10 minutes we bought a new battery and have just bought a new charger same old...

Well if you have bought the right battery and the proper charger this sounds very odd, did the amp hr and every say the same details on the battery & charger as the old one? when you charge the camera how long was it till you used the camera? as Sony cameras lose around 30% charge per week, I know because I have a Sony still camera and movie, both lose charge, my still camera goes flat in 3 weeks after a full charge with no use at all, so they are never good bits of equipment with batterys.

Battery won't charge. camera power won't turn on. don't know if the battery is permanent dead, or the camera itself is no functioning.

If you have the charger that plugs into the camera, try plugging it with your battery detached. The camera should run at this point, this would point to a bad battery. If not you ether have a bad camera or a bad charger. If it is under warranty take it back, if not take it back and see if they will let you try a battery or charger from their displays. Battery specialty stores are real good places to go for assistance with battery problems. They may be a bit more expensive but they usually are quite helpful about things like this. You should be able to find one near you in your yellow pages. Another good source is Radio Shack.

You need USB driver. Check in Image maker CD , you will find it. I couldn't make Firewire work , but USB works excellent. To recheck go to Device manager & check wether SONY IMAGING DEVICE comes in while refresh.

if it's a digital 8 like you said you should use a firewire cable to stream from cam-your cam has a dv port on it if it is digital-this is 4 pin firewire end-if your laptop or desk has same connect your fine-laptop has same sive end-desktop or mac has larger 6 pin end-if not use a box by pinnacle called dazzle that will convert your video out to usb-use windows movie maker if you want to work with video it's in xp or vista already installed

Sony handycam got wet now wont recharge or work off batteries dcr trv 270

Hi,
you can try removing everything you can remove from it, i,e battery and anythig else detachable.
Place it in a warm dry place for 24 hours. Airing cupboard, on top of or near a radiator ( wrapped on on a towel to avoid direct heat.
then open the dvd drive door, and gently blow warm air into it with a hair-dryer ( medium setting )
try again after it,s thoroughly dried out.
replace the battery, and try again.
If this does,nt work, i,d suggest buy a replacement, or make a clain on your insurance, for contents if you have one.
Mike @ compurepair.
p.s it,ll cost more to repair, than to buy a new one, and never be the same camera again.
good-luck Mike.
