Camera will turn on and record but you only see light and dark. The camera will not focus and therefore will not record usable video

Good day,

The problem you might be having is that the view finder is out of focus.
If this is the problem it is an easy fix.
You will see a small wheel next to the view finder (it has a + and a - next to it), look through the view finder and let the camera focus on an object. Now turn the wheel and you will see the image either get worse or start to come in focus. Adjust the wheel until you are satisfied with the clarity.

Please let me know if this was helpful!

Adjust view finder focus as you will see setting there, to view correct focus in view finder itself.
Camera is just fine because it is taking good focus pictures.

Next to the viewfinder ther is a diopter adjustment so you can change the focus in the viewfinder. this is so if you need glasses the camera can be set for you. Start by focusing the camera on something, then slide to turn the diopter adjustment until it looks sharp and try not to bump it.

Finder focus problem

is there a little slider type bar/switch/button on the finder, most cameras have them to compensate for different peoples eyesight. if there is, look through it, put camera in auto focus and when its focused, look through finder and move bar/switch... til pic is clear

Viewfinder probs. on an old camera

The view finder and auto focus are two different things. The camera can work and the view finder doesn't. The view finder circuit board is probably burned out or has a some bad components. If you are good at electronic circuits you could take the circuit board out yourself and try to trouble shoot it. But your chance of success is nil. RCA no longer carries this camera on their website so help is not available unless you were to take it to a repair shop and then they may not be able to get the parts. Or you may get lucky and they can fix it. You should try that first. At least you'll know what it will cost to fix it. This camera is sold on EBAY, you might be able to get one cheap enough for spare parts. My suggestion: I thinks its time for a new camera. Unless of course you still love VHS.

Minolta Maxxum 450si - dark images through view finder

The aperture mechanism needs repair - though most parts are no longer available because Sony purchased Minolta, this is a problem that can be repaired by a competent independent repair shop.
