Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop

1 Answer

My display has suddenly gone to "wide Screen",

On opening up today my display has suddenly stretched by about 25% in the horizontal direction. This results in circles looking like rugby footballs. I've tried re-booting but it makes no difference. The computer is an Acer 5535 laptop with Vista (Ugh !) much prefer XP.

Hi Rob3999, thanks for that info, the display doesn't seem to be quite like it was previously but at least circles are more or less round again

Hi Rod_burman. I take it you've tried to change the resolution by right clicking on the desktop and selecting a different resolution? What about looking in to rolling back drivers for display device?

I bought a computer with 15.4 Wide XGA display. It has not arrived yet. I want to put photos in. I believe the wide XGA will distort the photos. Can I make the view normal?

The size of the screen and its shape has no importance if you use a decent imaging program like IrfanView - in it the image will be resized to fit the screen and if the shape doesn't matches the screen will have black bands to compensate.
The only time a distortion will be encountered is when you will try to use it as a desktop background in the Stretch format - just select Center and all will be fixed. Of course the best solution is to crop and resize the picture to fit the screen exactly - you can do that with Irfan.

Laptop display problems

Hi Neela

Thank you for your query

Please try the following

1) Right Click in the middle of the desktop
2) Click on Properties
3) In the display settings box that appears click on the tab that says settings
4) The settings can be adjusted from here i..e screen resolution and colour quality, the display adapter can also be checked to ensure it is correct i.e. yours should be something like nvidia etc etc

First attach laptop to an external monitor and using the FN/ F keys toggle back and forth to the external display. If the external works OK then the video display adapter is fine and the problem is the TAB welds on the LCD. Time for a new LCD.

Screen problem

The pixel sensors at the edge of the screen have gone out causing the line. This is generally due to a bad or failing screen. Unfortunately, the screen will have to be replaced in order to fix this.
