Pixelating & freezing of picture

I have a Hughes Tivo unit for Directv with the 30+/- hour hard drive-that seems to be getting worse & worse. The picture pixelates and freezes more and more as time goes on. I love the Hughes unit and would like to continue using it as opposed to the crappy Directv ones. What is the likely problem here?

Hi, Pixelating and freezing are symptoms of loss of signal. You need to check all of your connections. Check for water in any connection. Check your satellite signal strength on each satellite and if low or they are all not there you could have a bad LNB but you need to check the LNBs and the multiswitch for poor or bad connections. Also check for any obstructions in the dish view to the sky or for anything that may not have been tightened down on the dish. Snow and ice builtup will cause this problem as well. Good Luck! in Normal cases, it could take as long as 24 hrs.
else it is a case of dead hard drive

Can hughes sd-dvr 80 be used as stand-alone dvr?


not without a subscription to Directv. after it enters the box it is basicly a Directv signal, it has to show up on the program guide.

the are some new features that tivo does not support. you still can watch your saved programs. Sadly the older tivos are equipped for the digital transitoins. I know Tivo and Directv are releasing a new receiver in a few months.

Welcome. powering up" screen freezes


well it sounds like the tivo is trying to re aquire the information needed or it was damaged during the power outage.If you can get into the menu settings make sure that you are getting a satellite signal on both tuners or both cables coming from the satellite.If you have the same tivo thats in the picture then you can go to directv central "the blue button at the top of the remote" then once you get there go to "read new messages and setup,then settings then satellite signal.once you go to the signal testing screen make sure you have a signal on both of the signal meter bars.If you dont one of the cables may have been damged.another way to test to see if the cables are ok is to take another receiver from another room and see if if will work on BOTH the cables that plugged into the tivo.If you discover that one or both cables are not working you can go to a website called satellitescoop.com and there is a section that will explain how to fix the cable/If you are unable to get to the setup screen then something internal may be wrong with the tivo.You will have to call Directv and have the tivo replaced with the new DVR,not tivo anymore.Or you can replace it yourself.Once again the website i mentioned will help ALOT.GOOD LUCK rate me fixya if this helps.OH yeah not dialing out will not cause any problems.Mine is the same way and it will just prompt you to make a phone call.

Freezes; sometimes resets by itself?


Most likely, it's your hard drive. It can be replaced, so you don't have to junk the unit.
