Question about Whirlpool LER7646E Dryer

1 Answer

ELECTRIC DRYER WON'T TUMBLE

My Whirlpool electric dryer (LER7656DQ1) doesn't tumble. The motor will hum for 15-20 seconds and then shut off. About every 5 minutes, it tries again. After 4 or 5 attemps, the drum begins tumbling and dries my clothes. Does this sound like a belt problem, and if so, how do I get into the dryer to check it.

Possibly the belt assembly. if you open the door and try to turn the drum does it turn with a little resistance, noises? this model has rollers, pulley, and a four groove belt 92 1/4" , sometimes the pulley sticks after yrs of use, belts wear, drum misaligns. the humming should be the motor trying to work.

Dryer does not want to tumble

Felicia
make sure to see if the blower runs free
in this case is your drum belt broken
if you have someone at home to dissassamble the dryer then
replace the belt and test the machine
this is a normal situation when the dryers are not tumble

Dryer not tumbling

Broken drive belt, or drive belt disengaged. Or stretched. Or lost tension spring. Humming is motor running, not driving drum.

Probably, you are hearing the motor turning. The belt likely broke.

beckerkim, you have one of two things going here, either your blower wheel has something jammed in it or it's broken or the motor itself is shot. Check the blower wheel first make sure it's ok. You also may want to check the drum rollers to make sure they are not seized up. Catriver...post back.
