Did the system re initialize?(e.g. date and time at1/1 12:00, ringing where it didn't before) If so, then the programming in the system will redone in order to support the voicemail.

You can access the answering system remotely by dialing your home telephone number from any touch-tone telephone. To remotely access the answering system
Dial your telephone number from any touch-tone telephone. When the answering system answers, enter the two-digit remote access code (19, unless you have changed it). The answering system automatically announces the number of messages (new or old) if there are any. If there are new messages, the answering system automatically begins to play new messages only. -OR If there are no new messages, the answering system automatically begins to play all old messages. You can also enter the remote commands: Play all messages
1 Press to listen to all messages. If there are new messages, the system plays back only the new messages (oldest first). If there are no new messages, the system plays back all old messages (oldest first). Play new messages
2 Press to listen to new messages only. Delete a message 3 Press during message playback to delete the current message. Delete all old messages

NOTES: If you do not enter a valid remote access code, the system answers the call automatically. If the date and time is not set when a message is recorded, the system announces, "Time and date not set" before the answering system announces the number of messages. If there are no messages in the answering system, the system announces, "You have no message." If there are no new messages in the answering system, when you press 2 to play back new messages, the system announces, "You have no new message." If you pause for more than four seconds during remote access, you hear a help menu listing all features and commands. If there is no command for another 20 seconds, the call ends automatically. Enter your remote access code to access the messages and announcements. When the answering system is turned off, the telephone answers after 10 rings and announces, "Please enter your remote access code."

We had a power outage and now the answering machine displays an A that we can't get rid of. Now matter what we do the system no longer works.

Try unplugging the base unit and removing the batteries from all the handsets. Then put the batteries back in and plug in the base unit to see if that resets everything.

Model 29827A...old phone but the one my mom is used to. The answering machine won't come on and the light is not on. Just changed battery not too long ago.

Hi,
A power outage may have shut the answering machine off.
On mine there is a program button. I can turn my answering machine on or off, how many rings before it starts. If you do not know how to access the phones programs, try unplugging the little square transformer plugged in the electric wall socket and plug it back in.
The phone may tell you how to reset the functions.
Worth a try.

My screen on my partner 18d displays a message of replace system battery w/power on. what does that mean?

the system battery is there for example a power outage, if a power outage occures then the battery will keep the phone from resetting and loosing all of your phone numbers. so depending on what kind of battery it needs then you might want to call the manufacture.

The area where how many messages you have goes from 0 to Cl

According to VTech the "CL" message alerts you to the loss of power and the need to reset the clock. Please refer to the user manual under the "Answering System Operation/Set the Clock" section to reset the clock.

If you don't have the manual, let me know and I will try to locate it.

Message box says full, but machine shows 0 messages

Do you also have a telephone-company provided answering feature on your line (such as Verizon's home voice mail)? I've known other people who got this service as part of a package from their phone company without realizing it, and had just the same trouble. Your callers may be reaching that instead of your answering machine.

Most companies alert you to waiting messages through "stutter dialtone." When you pick up your handset you'll hear two or three short bursts of dialtone before it goes steady. This is your signal to pick up your voicemail messages. Are you hearing this?

Check with your telephone service provider if you are unsure. If your telephone answering machine says it hasn't taken any messages, the full box message must be coming from them.

Reset after power outage

You just need to reset the time to fix this problem. There were three buttons on the back of the base for the day, hour, and minutes. I didn't know they were there!
