Question about Sony DAV-S400 System

2 Answers

My sony dav-s-400 system keeps activating headphone port output.

My system keeps turning off normall 5.1 output and activating the headphone output, as if it thinks there is headphones connected but there isn't. this problem occurs very frequently. it either starts in the headphone output mode or it plays normally for about 30 seconds and then changes to headphone output. Please help.

Also i can add that when it is in headphone output mode and if i plug in headphones i do get audio output from my headphones.

My system keeps turning off normall 5.1 output and activating the headphone output, it thinks the headphones are connected but they are not. The problem occurs very randomly. It either starts in the headphone output mode or it plays normally for some time and then changes to headphone output. When it switches back to 5.1 the screen show that the head phones are out but they have never been in.

Just had and fixed the same problem that hundreds of people are suffering with this system!!
Sony DAV s400 - same problem, won't play though speakers and display indicates that headphones are plugged in - when they are not. Fairly easy to fix and took me less than an hour from start to finish:
1) Remove top cover
2) Remove circuit board that has Audio In/Out phono scockets (to get access to Amplifier Circuit Board)
3) Remove Amplifier circuit board (has the speakers attached)
4) Turn it over and remove copper heat shield
5) Resolder joints where the big brown capacitor is and where the wires go to the front headphone socket...and any other dodgy joints that you find
6) Reassemble.

I was dismantle PCB and resolder joins for big brown capacitor, unfortunately without improve. I tried again dismantle and resolder 4 pins for headphone conection and about six next dodgy joints, after reassemble is working! :-)

Please change Headphone jack or headphone board because sensor switch built in headphone pin is sending wrong signal to system control so unit switch to headphone output.
Let me know if you need headphone pin or board part number.

Turning off

I got a DAV system that had exactly the same problem, ie. it was stuck in "headphone mode", this mode should be active when headphones are attached then it should revert to amplifier mode when the headphones are removed.
I opened the cover and removed the amplifier output board (the one where the speaker wires connect to) and soldered the following dry joints.
1) large brown capacitor on the amp output board.
2) dry joints on the rear headphone socket (the one that has the connecting lead from the front headphone socket)
3) Then one of the surround channels didn't work so I soldered further dry joints on all the coils (white vertical rectangular blocks)
I tested all surround chanels before putting the lid back on (careful, watch the mains) and found all was now working ok.

Sony DAV-SC5 not playing 5.1 through the optical input from sky/blu ray

Hi,

The DAV supports Dolby Digital® DTS 5.1 audio. Make sure your blueray movie has 5.1 track and is outputting to the DAV.

When plugging in a wireless headphone in the audio output the tv's speakers shut down. How can I stop this

The speaker cutout feature whenever the headphone jack is connected is a hard-wired feature of the headphone connector, and cannot normally be bypassed without further electronic circuitry and the associated surgery to install a custom modification in the TV. In order to keep the TV speakers on while using the sound elsewhere, you will have to take the audio output from the IR Audio port, if there is one.

I cant play music from my laptop to my sony dav tz130

Usually the only direct audio output from a laptop is through the stereo mini-jack for headphones. This would employ a standard sterteo cable to the audio input jacks on the rear panel of your Sony, but if those inputs on the Sony are already in use then you can't use that option. However, you might look at external USB sound cards which plug into a USB port on the laptop. These external sound devices may have a USB output to go to your TV as well.

Sylvania wireless headphones

Instructions
1
Set up the transmitter. Wireless headphones rely on a transmitter that sends audio via infrared or radio waves to your headset. Use the digital audio output (coaxial or optical), RCA outputs (red and white) or headphone jack on your TV to connect the transmitter. The connection will depend upon which outputs are available on your TV and/or the transmitter.
2
Use an RCA-to-headphone adapter. If you don't have a headphone jack on your TV and the transmitter includes only a headphone connection, connect an RCA-to-female headphone connector. This will allow you to plug the wireless transmitter into the female headphone end and then hook the RCA ends into your television's audio outputs. You may also need a 3.5 mm (mini jack)-to-1/4-inch adapter if the headphone plug on the transmitter doesn't match the television jack.

3
Set the transmitter on top of, or next to, the television. For infrared transmitters, you'll need a direct path between the headphones and the transmitter. Placing the transmitter on or near the TV will allow you to take advantage of the clear path you already have.
4
Plug in the transmitter and turn it on. Charge the headphones if necessary.
5
Turn on the headphones. Adjust the volume and settings and you're ready to watch TV.

Cd boombox and headphones

HelloWhen a headphone pin is inserted into a headphone socket, it is normal that the internal speaker of the system will cut OFF. It is normal operation, and not a fault. The speakers of such portable sets are wired such that it should cut OFF when headphone pin is inserted into it. We inserts headphone pin to hear the reception or CD music personally. So there is no need for an output from its speakers. Isn't it?

I have a set of T 912 wireless headphones. I am unable to set them up on the TV. I am using the white and red cables from the base station to the TV audio red and white. Do you have any instructions on...

The audio jacks on the TV are most likely inputs, not outputs. They're meant to take the audio signal from something like a DVD player, along with the video input on another jack, so you can play it through the TV. There isn't an audio signal coming out from those jacks, and if you connect your headphone transmitter to them all you'll get is silence. Almost all sets now have at least one set of AV inputs, but most don't give you outputs. The manufacturers figure the TV is just a display device, and not a signal source.

Unfortunately, there isn't any easy way to connect your wireless headphones if the TV doesn't have audio output jacks or a headphone connector. If you're comfortable with soldering and willing to do some modification to your TV, it's possible to add a headphone jack. Most people don't want to start tinkering with their sets, though.

If you're using your TV on a cable system without a converter box and the cable hooks right to the set, you're out of luck unless you're willing to add a headphone jack as I mentioned before. But if you have a cable converter box, or you're using a satellite receiver or other set-top box, you can use your headphones with those. These devices typically have direct audio and video outputs available on the rear panel, and you can use that audio output to feed the headphone transmitter.

What most people do these days is use a home theater receiver along with the TV. All sources (the cable box, DVD player, video game console, audio CD player, etc.) connect to the receiver, and the receiver's audio and video outputs go to the corresponding input jacks on the TV. This way, the TV is just the end of the line. The receiver also would provide an output for the wireless headphone transmitter. This system offers some advantages. You'll be able to connect the proper speakers to enjoy surround sound when not using headphones. And you'll be able to use your wireless headphones with the tuner and audio sources like music CDs when not watching TV.

I have sound from my headphones but nothing from the speakers, pls help

So it IS acting like headphones are inserted even without them. Stop messing with other connections. The jack for the headphones has spring-loaded normally opened and normally closed contacts that are designed to disconnect the speakers when the plug is inserted. Perhaps the NC connection isn't making good contact on headphone removal. With the Volume turned to soemthing NOT LOUD, repeatedly insert/remove the jack to see if it makes any difference; or with power OFF squirt a little tuner cleaner in there first and repeat with the headphone jack.
