Kenmore 70 sereis not drying

I have a gas Kenmore 70 seris dryer. About 6 yrs old. model number is 78702895, stock number-78702.

I checked the lint screen and outside to make sure it was clear of lint. The dsryer tumbles, but not heating up.

Should I check the heating element (not sure what or where that is) and what am I looking for. Is this an easy fix that anyone can do?

Before you call a technicia. check your thermal fuse which is located onn the back oif the dryer you will need to remove the back cover and it looks like this...it has 2 terminals.. on it...you can check itr with continuity..or unplugg your dryer...hook up the terminals...point is for em tyo make contactt do not hold it with your hand..and check to see if your igniter comes on.kenmore 70 sereis not drying - efdd9af.jpg

Stephanie, your best bet is call a repairman. It sounds like the igniter ororifice is not getting the gas. If you are not sure what to look for, call for help. It will be worth it in the long run.

Gas dryer starts blowing cold air after 5 minutes

This sounds like the dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/gdryertroublevideo.html

Kenmore 70 Series Dryer not heating and not cutting off

I had an identical problem to yours this weekend with my Kenmore dryer. There were 2 problems.

1. Timer was broken. Does not advance to "OFF" position on timed dry, however it still works for auto-dry.

2. Thermal fuse was blown. Upon replacing, dryer heated up normally.

I believe when the timer broke, the dryer had kept running and blew the thermal fuse. On Sears' website, thermal fuse is $5.30, timer is roughly $80.

Kenmore 70 Series

The most likely cause is a bad ignitor part number 279311. It has to glow to open the valve and ignite the gas. You should hear a loud click when you first start the dryer. That tells us there is voltage to the gas valve.

check the thermal fuse if it is blown also change the high limit thermal cut-off fuse www.repairclinic.com shows your parts. go there and enter model number. Also check the heat element. to get into it remove the lint filter and the two screws you'll see there then pry the top up at the front corners. And through the back you should find the heat element and blower housing and thermal fuse and high limit fuse and cycling thermostat.
