ok when i boot up the router it will not allow me to input anything. I cant send a break or any other commands and get this error
%SCM-3-SCM_BAD_SPEED: The modem line only supports a speed
    of 115200.
And I get it about 10 times and then the router stops working

The entire screen shot it appears the break is set to on but im new to this. I just wanted a router to practice my ccna stuff on and man what a headache

  • soldier5492 Feb 03, 2009

yes I have tried that to no avail. I have also tried to hard reset it with jumper settings on board inside case. maybee it isnt sending commands because the console cable is home made and isnt right

  • Celenous May 11, 2010

This is just an initializaion error message and generally doesn't denote a problem just that the wic is rated higher than the router. What WIC do you have installed in the router?

  • Celenous May 11, 2010

What specifically are you trying to do and what is the error message you are receiving?

It is possible that the break isn't set. To do this follow this link and take a look at the Reset Router section. Make sure that the break is correctly set and you should get a prompt. You might need to reset the configuration to get this working properly.

have tried ctrl+break during boot up to try and reset things?

  • Celenous Feb 03, 2009

aye could be can you get another cable? I think you are on the right track. This sounds like a hardware issue or connectivity issue.

I recently had a similar issue with a wrt54g Linksys (by Cisco) router. It happened when I used Internet Explorer 7 or 8. When I used Firefox, there was no issue. So, I suggest using a different web browser.

Please advice me as soon as uyou can ..thx

Start troubleshooting the problem by checking the physical layer (Plugs, Jacks, Cables). Replace them with known working equipment.

Once you have traced the line from your Cisco to each other end (through to ISP, and to network switch), then reset your error counters, by restarting the cisco.

Check the ethernet interfaces on the network switch and the Cisco. Make sure they are both set to Autonegotiate or both set to the same settings like 100mbs Full-duplex. If they are not communicating the same way lots of errors will be generated.

Cisco 1721 router problem

Does the router boot to rommon mode everytime you turn it on?

There are two reasons why the router could be booting to rommon mode

1. There isn't a valid ios image loaded in flash memory
2. The configuration register is set to a number that ends with '0'

Change the configuration register setting to a number that ends in '2'. (i.e. 0x2402)

You do this with the command: confreg 0x2402 <hit enter key> (in rommon mode)

Reboot the router and it will first search for boot system commands in the startup config, if none found it will boot to the first valid ios image in flash memory.

If there isn't a valid ios image in flash memory, the router will continue to boot to rommon.

Adtran Atlas 550 alternatives

1: Would a Cisco 1720 provide a simple soltution for terminating a T1 to Ethernet 100 Mps I recommend a 1721 2: If this would not be an option, what Cisco box would provide the needed termination/routing I recommend a 1721 3: If a Cisco device could do this would it be necessary to replace them at both locations or could it communicate with the Adtran device. It depends on the topology of how your sites are interconnected to each other. Please describe in greater detail.
