Question about Technics SL-1210 Turntable

1 Answer

Turntable Crackling Basically, my problem is one which has been on and off for a while now. I have a Vestax VMC-185XL mixer connected to my turntables (also with Serato connected). My problem is whenever I use the crossfader to scratch or to just fade, it makes a horrible crackling sound as I move the fader. I guessed the problem was static, so I cleaned the fader using some DeoxIT Fader Lube. This hasn't helped. I have realised that the problem only occurs when the needle is on either of the turntables, whether the vinyl is spinning or stopped. I also tried buying new needles to see if that helped...no difference (I use SHURE M44-7 carts), taking off the tone arm and blowing on it for dust didn't help on either side and I tried the obvious of just giving my vinyl a good clean. I cannot find a resolution to this problem. The crackling seems to fade away if I take the needles off the record while sliding the fader. So this seems strange to me. I checked the earthing wires on both decks, both are properly attached to the back of the mixer... What is going on?!!! I have a party to do on the 14th and if I use my mixer and turntables the way it sounds at the moment...the crackling won't be bearable! Many thanks in advance, Nathan Wickett

Thanks for the help Jon. That was kinda what I expected. I think it's a bit annoying though seeing as my Vestax is supposed to be a scratch mixer. I've only had it a year.

Thanks again, time to buy a new fader (a new mixer is too expensive for now. haha).

Sounds to me like your fader has popped! lube contact spray will not solve the problem, it will only clear it up for a few passes if any! PCV faders have covers inside which stop any lube getting right on the contacts! but in my experience as a scratch dj for 11 years is that contact spray only make the problem worse over time! best shot from here is to replace the fader, or get a mixer with optical/contactless fader i suggest a mixer with the 'eternal' fader i.e. ecler 360/80hak. hope this helps

Vestax Handy Trax Turntable skips toward the end of very LP played. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Generally caused by a worn stylus, or incorrect pressure. Increase the weight - pressure, by adjusting the weight on the end of the arm.

Humming with vestax

hummm , does it also hum with the other gear shift out, especially tl and ledlights, if so it't a ground loop, but often is just the earth of the turntable not well connected

Clibrate pitch Vestax PDX d3S

It's a variable , since it's depended on more parts, but just clean it first and gently turn it until the platter moves correct, assuming you
mean to correct the variable resistor(potmeter) . If the value was everywhere the same, then you don't need a variable resistor:)

Hi, have been given a vestax pdx 2300 turntable and the motor is acting crazy, do i replace motor or is it an internal roblem?

Is there a speed control switch? UNPLUG and try spraying contact cleaner into the speed control. IF that doesn't solve it, then back to the manufacturer.

Is a Vestax VR-3S cartridge compatible with a Technics 1200 turntable?

HI!
I understand the Vestax VR-3S cartridge is moving magnet (magnetic). Provided it is wired correctly there should be no problems. Any magnetic cartridge will be compatible.
CHEERS :-)

Vestax o5 pro mixer channel 2 not working

Doe you get sound in from the headphones? If so, then the issue might be the volume fader for that specific channel.

If not, then the issue might be the input connections or input pc board the connections are soldered on to.

The fader can be self replaced, although complete disassembly of your unit is required. Not a hard task, but there are alot of jumper cables, and you have to be careful when putting her back together.

If it's the latter, then I would suggest taking it to a service center for repair.

Vestax PMC 05 PRO MIXER master output is not working

More than likely the output PCB might be faulty, or the signal amp might be damaged. In either case, not an easy fix. As for service in the UK, try HARD TO FIND RECORDS - they have a pretty good service dept.

Low volume on both sides

Make sure you connected the turntable to the PHONO INPUT of your Vestax Mixer. If so, then the problem might be with your mixer output, or your sound system. You will need to test each unit individually to determine what the issue might be.
