Question about Dell XPS M1530 Notebook

13 Answers

Yahoo mail has red squares instead of icons. My Yahoo the same.

Just bought a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista home. All web pages display properly except Yahoo mail and other Yahoo pages where icons are replaced with red rectangles. Opening a new account or using Google Chrome makes no difference.
So far Yahoo have been unable to help, can you please?

Suggested actions have either already been taken or not worked. Further advice appreciated please.

    Thankyou

Good thought but I've already tried this and no luck. It's as if there's a missing addon but I've checked with my old XP laptop and there's no difference in the loaded addons.

Could there be a clash with another program?

  • russteele Feb 07, 2009

The appearance is quite different from what appears on my old XP laptop so not normal I think.

  • russteele Feb 07, 2009

Loaded Firefox but still the same (also no solution using Chrome as someone else suggested)

Good thinking machadojr_fe, any advice on how I configure my firewall please? I use PCGuard which comes from Virgin.

  • russteele Feb 08, 2009

I leave auto-update on all the time and its last update was yesterday. Checked the website and my machine has the latest OS version.

  • russteele Feb 11, 2009

All suggestions so far have been logical but unfortunately have not helped resolve the problem, and I had already tried most of them before deciding to pay for some help.

Thanks for all suggestions so far, I hope someone out there has an answer.

Deleted all cookies, history and temporary files with no success. Have tried Firefox and Chrome with no success either.

  • russteele Feb 11, 2009

I use wifi so no cables to move. However disabling antivirus and firewall did the job :)BUT it's not a permanent or acceptable solution is it :(

So now the question is how do I configure PCGuard to make this a permanent and safe solution please?

  • russteele Feb 12, 2009

Well done moniter - so simple. Thanks++

Solution # 1

Goto Avanced Options in IE settings and make sure Show Pictures is checked.

Still no luck? Continue to next solution

Solution # 2 ( Note :Adobe flash 10 don't work well with Vista IE7 or IE8 )

  1. Un install Adobe flash player 10. (Download older version of flash player from here)(9.0 in fine)
  2. Check for the latest version of java.
  3. Check that both these software are installed on your machine.
Solution # 3 loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); Enable scripting, ActiveX controls, cookies, and Java programs to enable Web pages to run correctly .

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab, and then click Default Level (if default is not available, click, custom, then click reset) for each zone.
  3. Restart

Re:"All web pages display properly except Yahoo mail and other Yahoo pages where icons are replaced with red rectangles. Opening a new account or using Google Chrome makes no difference."

That may depend on a firewall or dns problem or a slow internet connection.

Try moving your router phone and ethernet cable , to sort out problems related to disturbance on cable, also call your provider.

Disable temporarily your firewall and internet protection.

Re: "Disabling antivirus and firewall did the job"

That means that you instructed the forewall to block pictures on yahoo mail page at some point.

A solution to this is going through the firewall settings and add the page as an exception.

An easier solution can be uninstalling and reinstalling back teh whole Firewall/Antivirus suite.

Do not leave the antivirus off for a long time.

    Regards.

Hello,

I would recommend you to first update your vista OS via MS update page. This would update the IE and other system files for proper page rendering.

Let us know.

Yahoo Mail appears to be having a problem currently. There are several connection timeouts to some of its servers. I cannot even access one of my accounts right now.

You may also eed to configure your firewall to let yahoo mail in.

Hello you can always download for free here at DELL:

Try also the service tag number here:

In order to get the right drivers.

But first select your windows system.

Open the folder and download the driver.
You might have to unzip the file before you install it.

Here is not drivers for all windows systems, but the vista driver should work on windows 7.

To further investigate the issue you may do the following.

1.go to control panel --> administrative tools then select event viewer. check on system logs. you might be able to find a clue on why the notebook keeps on freezing after 15 to 20 minutes.

2.please check your virus definitions if its fully updated. If not please update it then do a full scan afterwards.

3. do a windows update on your system if it's not fully updated yet.

4. You may also check or try to remember what has been installed lately. It might be that the application installed have caused vista to freeze.

Freezing and crashing - dell xps m1530

contact Customer support first and have them help you diagnose it. If you just bought it, you shouldn't try to do anything too drastic. You might want to back up your files right now though because it might get worse or you might have to send it to Dell and they may send you a completely different laptop. Back up, call Dell.
