Your energy management software may be set to shut off or go in standby.

If so, go to display properties by right-clicking mouse and finding option and clicking on it in menu then screen savers then underneath that should be where your energy management software for your os is. Click on this and change to your liking.

Other possibilities, computer may be heating up(check for proper ventilation and that all fans are up), power supply port may be damaged(replace), or short may be present(get someone to check for loses and shorts that is a professional).

My advent modena m202 will only work through mains power supply. I have a brand new batter which I was only able to charge in my old laptop. so m202 is not charging and wont work with fully charged

If the battery is OK then there may be an issue with the contacts that connect the battery to the motherboard or the regulator on the mother board has failed due to a previously faulty battery, in which a motherboard repair is required.

Advent K4000 CD/DVD Drive Wont load the disc...says no disc present

What are you doing with it? Trying to record a CD? I don't know why, but that happens sometimes when trying to burn a CD, no matter what you do. Try being sure the tray is shut good, open & close it again, and if that isn't it, then try a different disk. A few days ago, I had an expensive disk that just didn't get found in mine, & nothing helped but a different disk. Then no problem. Hope it's not your last 1. :) If those things don't help, come back and ask more, & tell us what you tried, please. More info= better answer. :)

Charger was plugged in and working fine, went into

OK unplug power supply from back of laptop, remove battery, insert power supply, if NO light, on laptop, power supply is broken..Replace. IF it is OK, hold power button ON for a while, or until, the PC starts, if/when it starts, shutdown, with power ON key, and then take out power supply, replace battery, replace power supply, turn laptop on, now should be OK.

Laptop wont power up

This is what I would do before chalking this thing up as a hard ware failure try connecting thie to another adpator if that then does not work you indeed got a HW failure with the laptop and the motherboard would likely need to be replaced, Get it evaluated by a technition the geek squad at any best buy wull be able to test this real quick for you do not loose a good laptop over a faulty adaptor trust me this is where the issue could result.

thanks and please do leave postive feedback, ratings for your free naswer today.

Screen went black whilst using it

You could have a backlight problem.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
