I have the same problem. All I can offer is:

It might have something to do with the print cartridge--not the ink cartridge but the thing the ink cartridges rest in. I washed mine then put it back in and noticed a small short on the circuit board--must have been just enough moisture there to cause it.

I DID replace the print cartridge and still have the problem but can tell you it stemmed from the above mentioned incident. The short may have caused additional problems beyond that.

My Canon MP 780 won't turn on. Of course I have unplugged it and plugged it into a different outlet but to no avail.
I had a recent power outage and although the unit IS plugged into a surge protector I am suspecting that it was fried by a power surge. If anyone has a solution, please help.

About 2-weeks ago, I had the same deal. It worked perfectly and then it wouldn't power on. I've tried it in several differnt outlets but nothing. The ink tray will not move an inch. Seems dead to me.

To move the print cartridge without power to the printer: Grab it with your hand and slide to the middle. It may offer slight resistance and while not an expert, I doubt damage will be caused.

I realize that this sounds strange but....
It had been about a week since my printer had lost power (wouldnt turn on, no power seemed to be going to it, suspected power surge). I had tried different outlets and replacing the power cord but I finally just unplugged it and walked away... it was dead. I was about to purchase a new printer but decided to plug it in one last time, not expecting to see any sign of life when low and behold... it worked! Original outlet & original power cord, and it was suddenly working again! I really hope that the same thing goes for those of you who are having the same issue.

No power. Replaced pwr. cord.

Check that the power cord has been properly attached and that no damage has occurred. Also try another outlet on a different circuit.
