This guide suggests the following:

"Place the first piece on the left against the left edge of the puzzle. Put the first piece on the right against the top edge, against the first piece you put in. Put the third piece on the left int the bottom right corner of the puzzle, then put the fourth piece on the left against that one. Now put the second piece on the left in the remaining space."

you have a box 6squares x 6 squares

with 4 randomly missing ones(but pretend they're counted in)

Now assuming these boxes are numbered from 1 to 36 left to right and top to bottom ok??

Copper is 1

Silver is 3

Gold is 5

You need a total of 10

Ok,

in box 23 is copper=1

box 24 is gold=5

28 is copper=1

35 is silver=3

Total 10

All in a 5 square plot

Hope this helps

You haven't solved all 132 puzzles

The game tells you (both in the trunk and in the save slot) how many puzzles you've both found and solved

Players who think they've solved all 132 puzzles usually just look in the game's puzzle list, see that the last puzzle there is 132 and mistakenly assume that they must have solved all 132 puzzles

The puzzle list only shows those puzzles that have already been found, not every puzzle

Unless the found/solved count shows 132/132, then the last puzzle house will not open

If the game says, for example, that you've only solved 131 puzzles, then you have to very carefully look through the list to find the missing puzzle number ... if you don't find it, look again (some players have had to look through the list multiple times before spotting it)

Once you have the missing puzzle number, check this walkthrough to quickly find where the puzzle is (if it's not in Granny's shack)

http://professorlaytonwalkthrough.blogspot.com/

There's a puzzle index down the right side of the walkthrough you can click on

On a side note, this walkthrough can also be used for more puzzle solving fun, by looking at those puzzles that are specific to the other version (US/UK) of the game (there's over 180 puzzles between the versions)

here you go

Puzzle #9 -One Poor Pooch

Puzzle #9 -One Poor Pooch

- Just keep the basic anatomy of a dog in mind when you're moving around the matches.
- The triangle represents the head, the match at the end is the tail, the square is the body, and the four matches at the bottom are legs. The dog must have all of these in the final product.
- Don't think of this in real life terms. Think of a cartoon dog getting flattened by a steamroller.
- Move the two inside legs to the top half of the square facing outwards.
**Reward:**35 Picarats**Hint Coins**:- Tap the candle directly above Matthew's head.
- Tap the circular painting underneath the middle of the three paintings by the stairs.
- Tap the top level of the bookcase.

- After collecting the hint coins, tap the bookcase to start up puzzle #10.

when the gizmo/dog/girl/boy sniffs it means it found a hint coin right in front of its face =]

hi, move two single legs, from the bottom. And put one at each courner at the top. So the dog is flat, like spread out.

Hope that helps Pitstopl
