Your USB pen drive may have a small slide switch on the side of the pen drive. Slide the switch to unlock the write protection.

I recently replaced a Hdd on a PC and downloaded an op system to a usb and all I get is this screen,is there something I'm doing wrong or missing something?

Try to make sure that the installation that you put on the flash drive is bootable. Use pendrive Linux
I personally use it as it is very easy to make bootable flash drives

Wipe my hard drive

if your intention is to make the data on your drive irrecoverable you can try to boot you computer off of a usb flash drive with DBAN (Darik's boot and nuke) and follow the on screen instructions

To boot from usb drive search the model of your system and see if your device can accept a boot to usb and it will require pressing a key usually F12, F10 or something

to make a usb for DBAN, download DBAN from a website and use a program called pendrive linux and install pendrive linux. then run pendrive linux and select (DBAN 2.2.x) under Select linux distribution. then select the flash drive you want to use and check the format to FAT32 (WARNING: THIS WILL ERASE YOUR FLASH DRIVES FILES)

Then under select iso click browse for iso and find the DBAN file you downloaded and then click create after this is donw you can then boot to the usb drive and follow the on screen instructions and under methods you can choose a long format or a quick one its up to you

If you are unsure if you can do this just take it slow and understand the risks of losing your data.

I have a emachine netbook and it say no bootable device

Failed hard drive (assuming one is installed), or could be that it has "lost" the Windows installation.
Possibly a virus, you need to reinstall windows, or hopefully, repair the installation

To do this, as this does not appear to have a DVD rom, you will need the following:
  1. A legit copy of windows (whichever is installed currently)
  2. A spare computer or preferably an external USB DVD Drive (if the latter, skip to the end)
  3. The SATA drivers for this laptop (essential if using windows xp, may not need if vista)
  4. a USB pendrive of at least 4 GB
  5. A USB Floppy drive (possibly)
  6. a copy of win to flash

Uisng the spare computer, extract the contents of the Windows disc to a folder on the spare computers hard drive. Run win to flash and follow the instructions, it will build a boot copy of windows on the pendrive that you specify (it will format the pendrive also).

Copy the sata drivers to the USB floppy drive (you might get away with copying them to the same usb bootable you have just made but I doubt it)

Now, in the bios, set 1st boot to USB drive

Then boot and install, when you reach the F6 prompt, point it to the usb floppy drive and let if find the sata textmode drivers.

Its hould then find your existing windows installation and repair it

IF you ahve a USB DVD / CDROM drive, ignore the above and just install from that, you may need to use a floppy usb to install the sata drivers though

How to remove write protection from pendrive?

Is the pendrive is protected in your laptop or in other laptop also? if its protected only with your laptop then follow the following steps.
  1. Go to registry, follow the path
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevice Policies
  3. There you will find a key "WriteProtect", check the value.
  4. If value is '0' then OK, if '1' then make it '0'
  5. To change the value, double click at the key "WriteProtect", one manu will pop up. change the value.
Note: Be careful while working with registry.

I cannot plug any divice.

The laptop is too old for Windows 7 to be installed onto it. Windows 98 will need the USB 2 drivers installed before you can plug a USB 2 drive in and have it recognized.

My advice to you would be to upgrade Windows 98 to Windows XP, then you will have an up to date computer.

Try another pendrive and see if the same is working.
PLease make sure if your pendrive is USB 2.0 compliant.
If it came with an installation CD/CVD, install the same and try.
