Remov the cmos battery and reset cmos to std

try safe mode ? tap the F8 key while booting
see if you can turn off the auto restart on system failure

R/Mouse button on My Computer (not a shortcut) L/Mouse on properties . Advanced Tag Start up and Recovery Settings Button

What will i do!after i shutdown my compaq Evo N800v laptop, and remove the harddisk for me to copy some larger files on my another laptop!and when i put the harddisk back and power it on,it just hang up on...

It looks like one of the start up files have been changed or corrupt. Any change to the boot environment will cause this problem. The solution here could be a bit long but you just have to take your hard drive to the other computer and back up all your user data and files you need. Then take is back to the Laptop, just in case anything goes bad. Get a copy of the operating system you are using on a CD and let the computer boot from it by pressing F2 or Del to get into the BIOS and go to the Boot Sequence or Boot order to make the CD rom the first device to boot from. Then press F10 to save and exit. This will allow the computer to boot form the CD. Choose the repair option to repair the master boot record. If you are using Windows XP, put the CD in and choose Repair on the first window. This is a command prompt and this is what you are going to type in the command prompt to install the Automatic System Recovery (ASR) winnt32.exe /cmdcons and this will install the recovery console. In the recovery console, type fixmbr to fix the master boot record

Tip

If you get message: " boot disk failure" then follow this tip

1)If any cd or dvd is there in the cd or dvd drive remove them first then try booting
if problem persists then
2)check the boot device priority in the BIOS menu, change the boot device priority if required(change to 1 st boot device floppy, 2nd harddisk drive,3 rd to cdrom drive something like this)
to go to bios setup press del or f2(it depends if del key doesnt brings you the bios utility then press f2) at time when you switch on the pc ie at the time of booting the pc ,
if problem persists then
3)check whether the harddisk is detected or not in the bios setup
if it is not detected then just open the CPU & check the bus & power supply cable connected to the harddisk remove them & reinsert them ...
if required then replace with the new ones ....
if the problem persists then
4)the operating system might have got corrupted just reinstall ....
if problem persists then
5)the harddisk partitions might have got corrupted or crashed ,just try partitioning them again and by installing the operating system.

Shutdown the system and disconnect the power cable.Disconnect external peripherials.Hold the power button for 10 secs to drain static power.connect the power cable to the computer.turn on the computer and hit the F2 key to boot in bios.If you are in the bios turn on the caps lock, scroll lock, and numlock key.then Hold the Alt key + E, then Alt key + F, Alt key + B. Computer will restart check for hdd or boot device. If hdd is detected it should boot to desktop. If issue persist .Shut down the system.disconnect power cable.Hold power button for 10 secs.Open the tower and disconnect the hdd from the sata or ide cable.Connect hdd in a different sata or ide connector.Connect power cable and turn on the computer and follow steps 1.If still getting same error possible hdd gone bad.Good Luck.

Hi my acer laptop is giving me a display saying it cannot find the operating system

Either your master boot record got hosed or the entire hard drive has failed. When booting the machine, enter the system BIOS and check to see that your hard drive is recognized. If it is not, you will need to replace it. If it is recognized, you will need to boot from your OS installation CD and try to repair your existing installation. It should automatically be able to detect the problem and fix it without any other kind of manual intervention. If that is not the case, post back here to this thread and I'll offer other suggestions.

My Hp Pavillion laptop dv2214tu doesnot boot beyond the HP INVENT logo page. I tried performing the Primary Hard Disk check as stated on the HP Support site but its not happening.I also reseated the RAM...

Unscrew your Laptop HardDrive bay and remove your harddisk first, then try to boot your system wthout the Harddisk inside. If it Boots past the HP Invent Logo Page, then your harddisk is the one that is faulty, if still doesnt, get another good, working RAM, apart from the one in your system, and use it to test your laptop...making sure that the harddisk is still not inside...then if it boots insert your Harddisk back with the new RAM, and restart your system.
If in the first case it boots (i.e wihout the harddisk inside)...then it means your harddrive is faulty, just retrieve your file on it and get a new one.
If in the second case it works (i.e with a new external RAM) then just change your RAM instead.

you need to select ur harddisk as the first bootable device., that option is in BIOS settings. When switch on the system before loading OS press F2 to get the BIOS settings and select boot option in the menu and select your harddisk as the first bootable device. Restart the system now. If the same error is displayed your harddisk data cable may be failed or your harddisk may be corrupted...

Comcast email

Please backup all YOUR DATA onto any media you have upon BOOTING your comp before you attempt to execute any of the programs. The problem what you have does not seem to be hardware related as yet . After you backup Your Data completely you could remove the existing harddisk from your comp , connect ANOTHER HARDDISK or a SPARE HARDDISK that you might have and install the winxp OS followed by your email app., software and perform checks by trying to execute different options . The outcome of this exercise gives you the solution. PLEASE BEAR IN MIND AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO BOOT YOUR COMP TAKE A COMPLETE BACKUP OF ALL YOUR DATA FOR WHICH YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE WHICH MIGHT HAVE BEEN SEVERAL MAN HOURS OF WORK EITHER MANUALLY OR AUTOMATICALLY WITH THE AID OF BUILT-IN OPTIONS IN COMCAST SOFTWARE.

Do this and let me know I will help you further if required.
