Contact Linksys for assistance in, "Resetting the login username and password."

Once you have that reset, log in to your router's control panel (192.168.1.1) and find the region to configure your router's wireless Internet signal. In this region you will want to enable encryption for your connection (Preferably the WPA-PSK TKIP authentication/encryption types). Afterward make sure to write down the password for the wireless connection. At the same time ensure that the router is broadcasting your SSID, otherwise you will have to write that down as well when attempting to connect to your wireless network.

With your wireless network password in-hand, try to connect to your wireless network inserting the password at the appropriate time.

Let us know what happens, that way if your problem wasn't resolved we can continue debugging the situation.

At the momenbt the router is fixed to the lap top by a cable, I want to establish a wi fi connection in my house for the lap top and iPad How do I do it please?

1. Log in to the DG834G firewall at its default LAN address of http://192.168.0.1 with its default user name of admin and default password of password, or using whatever LAN address and password you have set up. 2. Click the Wireless Settings link in the main menu of the DG834G firewall. 3. Choose a suitable descriptive name for the wireless network name (SSID). In the SSID box, enter a value of up to 32 alphanumeric characters. The default SSID is Wireless. Note: The SSID of any wireless access adapters must match the SSID you configure in the DG834G Wireless ADSL Firewall Router. If they do not match, you will not get a wireless connection to the DG834G. 4. Set the Region. Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate. 5. Set the Channel. The default channel is 11. This field determines which operating frequency will be used. It should not be necessary to change the wireless channel unless you notice interference problems with another nearby wireless router or access point. Select a channel that is not being used by any other wireless networks within several hundred feet of your firewall. For more information on the wireless channel frequencies please refer to "Wireless Channels" on page D-7. 6. For initial configuration and test, leave the Wireless Card Access List set to allow everyone access by making sure that "Turn Access Control On" is not selected in the Wireless Station Access List. In addition, leave the Encryption Strength set to "Disabled." 7. Click Apply to save your changes. 8. Configure and test your computers for wireless connectivity. Program the wireless adapter of your computers to have the same SSID and channel that you configured in the router. Check that they have a wireless link and are able to obtain an IP address by DHCP from the firewall.
Next, you will have to set your wireless key so that you can prevent everyone from accessing your router. To do this,
1. Log in at the default LAN address of http://192.168.0.1, with the default user name of admin and default password of password, or using whatever LAN address and password you have set up. 2. Click Wireless Settings in the Setup section of the main menu of the DG834G. 3. Choose the WPA-PSK radio button. The WPA-PSK menu will open. 4. Enter the pre-shared key in the Passphrase field. 5. Click Apply to save your settings.

You need to set your router up for wireless access, obviously the router only allows registered wireless devices to access the router and internet. You need to set up your wireless access points like so, -

How to Set Up and Test Basic Wireless Connectivity

Follow the instructions below to set up and test basic wireless connectivity. Once you have established basic wireless connectivity, you can enable security settings appropriate to your needs.

Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate

5. Set the Channel. The default channel is 11. This field determines which operating frequency will be used. It should not be necessary to change the wireless channel unless you notice interference problems with another nearby wireless router or access point. Select a channel that is not being used by any other wireless networks within several hundred feet of your firewall.

6. For initial configuration and test, leave the Wireless Card Access List set to allow everyone access by making sure that "Turn Access Control On" is not selected in the Wireless Station Access List. In addition, leave the Encryption Strength set to "Disabled."

7. Click Apply to save your changes.

8. Configure and test your computers for wireless connectivity. Program the wireless adapter of your computers to have the same SSID and channel that you configured in the router. Check that they have a wireless link and are able to obtain an IP address by DHCP from the firewall. Once your computers have basic wireless connectivity to the firewall, you can configure the advanced wireless security functions of the firewall.

Your ipod touch should now connect to the router, BUT so will everyone else so you need to secure your wireless network.

You can find instructions on page 54, section 4-8 of the manual. If you haven't got a copy you can download one from this link, -

http://www.netgear.co.uk/product_support.php

Select DG834G from the drop-down list, allow pop ups. On the next page; which may open as a new window, select the DG834Gv2.

Any problems, email me bob.felstead@tiscali.co.uk and I'll send the PDF to you.

Regards,

Bob

Once you've done this you need to set up wireless security

You said that the Internet connection is dropping. It is a modem *** router.
If there is any MTU settings , then reduce the MTU.
For example If MTU is 1500 then reduce it to 1400.
Otherwise you will need to upgrade the Firmware of the router.

No internet connection through routers (broadband AND wireless)

Try to disable any firewalls on your computer. If you already have internet details showing, there's something blocking your connection which is possibly a firewall. Turn off the Windows firewall as well as Norton, Mcafe, Zone Alarm and the like if you have one.

WIN XP

Windows XP includes a built in firewall. By default, the firewall is enabled (turned on). In order to use your router, you must turn off the Windows XP firewall. Your router already provides a firewall for you so turning off the Windows XP firewall will not make your system any less secure. Follow the steps below to disable your Windows XP firewall: 1. Right-click on "My Network Places" on the Desktop. 2. Select "Properties" from the menu that is displayed. 3. Right-click on the Local Area Connection icon that corresponds to your network adapter. 4. Select "Properties" from the menu that is displayed. 5. Click the "Advanced" tab. 6. "Internet Connection Firewall" will have a checkmark next to it. Remove this checkmark by clicking it once. 7. Click "OK" to apply the change. Windows will ask you if you want to turn off the firewall. Click "Yes" You have now successfully disabled the Windows XP firewall. You are still protected by your router's firewall. You should now be able to access your router.
