Hello bp7291,

We can bypass using the CD installation.

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:

1. Check physical connections.

a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet “i” LED on the front of the router should light up.
b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up.

2. Access the router's web-based utility.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default.

To reset the router:

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

3. Configure the router.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a cable connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings under Setup tab.
b. Select No for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Scroll down on the center page and look for the Router MAC Address section. Set it to Use computer MAC address and click on the Apply button.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a DSL connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings.
b. Select Yes for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Select Other on the Internet Service Provider drop down box.
d. Enter your ISP's username (username@ISPdomain) and password. Then, click on Apply.

4. Configure the wireless settings.

a. Click on the Wireless Settings under Setup.
b. Change the SSID to any unique name.
c. Scroll down, look for the Security Options settings and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
d. Set the Authentication type to "Automatic" and the Encryption Strength to "64bit".
e. Leave the Passphrase field blank, select Key 1 and enter a 10-digit number.

Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection.

f. Click Apply button to save the changes.
g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle.

5. Power cycle.

a. Power off the modem, router and computers.
b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking.
c. Power back the router and the computers. Check if it will be able to get online.

If you have wireless computers, you can connect them wireless to the router. Kindly follow the instructions below:

6. Connect wireless computer to the router.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 1, please follow the steps below:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer.
b. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
c. Click on the Advanced tab.
d. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK.
e. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Network. Please select your network and click on Connect. It will ask you for the network key.
f. Please type in the network key and then confirm it. Network key is the password you type on the key 1 of the wireless settings of the router.
g. Make sure not to enable IEEE and then click on Connect.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, please follow the steps below:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer.
b. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
c. Click on the Change Advanced Settings.
d. Click on the Wireless Networks tab remove all the preferred networks then click on OK.
e. Right click on the Wireless icon then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
f. Select your network and click on Connect.
g. It will ask you for the network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect. Network key is the password you type on the key 1 of the wireless settings of the router.

If you are using Windows Vista, please follow the steps below:

a. Click Start then select Connect To.
b. Connect to a network window will show up.
c. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
d. It will ask you for a network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

From the above configuration, please check if you can now access the Internet.

If you are trying to connect the computer to the router with a cable the above diagram should help to explain the simple broadband signal path from the Ethernet or telephone wall socket, to the router and from the router to the computer's RJ45/Ethernet port. Once the computer is connected to the router by a cable is connected to a telephone wall socket or a ERJ45/Ethernet wall socket that has a 'always on' broadband internet signal coming into it, nothing else is required -> launch the Web Browser.
If you are connecting wirelessly the wall socket to the router part of the setup is the same but no cable is required between the router and the computer.
Enable the wireless function in your netbook, click on the image of two computers bottom right near the clock -> view available networks/connect to network -> click on the appropriate Netgear router signal -> connect -> launch the Web Browser.

Need specific instructions on how to install w/o

from router with ethernet to computer.....then open up your web browser and type in the address bar 192.168.0.1, a pop down login appears user/login= admin, and password- password. click okay. now you should be looking at the netgear config page. there is a button or tab you can click on that says wireless settings, so click it......first is the SSID which probably says wireless or netgear in it.....put in a name you will recognize when searching for your wireless connection......this is the Name of your wireless connection.... then scroll down to wep 64 bit encryption and select it. next, scroll down to key1 and type in a ten digit code (area code and phone number usually works great). leave the passphrase box above key 1 blank. once you have your code typed in scroll down to the bottom where it says apply and click the apply button. now , you need to double check that the netgear saved your new settings, so once the apply click refreshes the page scroll down and make sure its still there,,,,if not write down what the netgear replaced it with. once doublecheck is complete no need to apply again , just close your browser. then remove the ethernet cable, go down by the clock and right click your wireless network icon to view availbel wireless networks,,,, you then should be able to find Your SSID name and click it to then type the encryption in and now your surfing.

I am starting to install Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824 v2 I reset to factory settings. I have windows XP professional. The unit is powered, and connected to the internet. what is the next step?...

Once you have your router connected to your Modem, connect your computer to any open port on the router, and with your Web Browser, go to http://192.168.1.1 and log in to the router. Login is (default) login name is admin and default password is just a blank field. Once you have logged in to your router, go through setting up things like IP address (leave at "Get Dynamically from ISP". Same with DNS server --- "Get automatically from ISP". MAC address should be already filled in. Click Apply. You should be good to go for wired router use, and if you want to use it wirelessly then you need to click "Wireless Settings", pick your SSID (Name of your network) and any security you choose. After this you ought to be set for wireless access as well.

Trying to install my Netgear Router to my PC and 2 playstations dont have the install CD anymore tho so cant set up easily how do I set it up without the CD MOdel WPN824 V2

You set the router up by using the web browser on your PC. (No CD needed).
The router has its own web server at address 192.168.0.1 or 092.168.1.1 (you don't need the www.)
It will ask for the log in and password which are (if they haven't been changed) admin and password.
Once past that you go top the set-up page and enter the info provided by your ISP (normally in a letter but sometimes it comes by text message to your mobile phone) and generally that is that.
Connect your playstations and the job should be done. (I don't use p[laystations so I don't know if they need anything special.)

Lost setup DC

The router is compatible with any operating system. You don't need to use the CD that came with it to setup the internet connection. Just open the router's setup page by typing http://192.168.2.1 on your browser. There you can see the automatic setup.
