Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
Could you give me the next step after the procedure you just gave me? As my internet at home is still down due to the mishap I just shared, I may be able to get back to you tomorrow.
Thank you again for your very quick response for my problem.
Let me give you a different approach.
Boot your computer down.
Plug an ethernet cable (whihc you should already have) between the modem and your computer.
Boot your computer up.
You should be able to access the Internet at this point.
If you can not, then you need to check your modem connection to the phone line and/or the modem is on. One check you can do is open a command prompt, then type ipconfig /release, then when the prompt returns, ipconfig /renew. Please post the info that returns from that action.
If this doesn't work, let me know. If it works, then -
Unplug the modem from your computer.
Plug the modem into the correct port on the router.
Plug an ethernet cable between the router and your computer.
Power up the router
Allow the system to recognize. See if you can access the internet. If not, then press the hidden reset button on the back of the router. If you do this, you will need to set all your security back up again.
Let me know if you get this far. Most all of the above should be detailed in the user mauals for the modem and router.

NOTE: The image may vary depending on the computer and modem you're using.
Connecting the Devices Together
After confirming the Internet connection through the modem, connect the modem to the Internet port of the router; connect the computer to any of the four Ethernet ports at the back of the router. For instructions, click here.
Checking the Router's LEDs
After connecting the devices together, check the lights on the front panel of the router. Ensure that the Internet light, as well as numbered light corresponding to the Ethernet port where the computer is connected, is lit. For further instructions, click here.
Setting Up a Linksys Router for Cable Internet Connection
Access the router's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.
NOTE: If you are using a Mac computer to access the router's web-based setup page, click here.
On the Setup tab, click the MAC Address Clone sub-tab.
Select Enabled then click Clone My PC's MAC.
Click Save Settings.
Click the Status tab.
Check the Internet IP Address. If the Internet IP Address has numbers, this means the router has been properly configured. You should now be able to access the Internet. If you're still unable to access the Internet, powercycle the modem, the router and then restart the computer.
NOTE: If the IP address is still 0.0.0.0, click IP Address Release then, click IP Address Renew. If this does not change the IP Address, powercycle the modem, the router and then restart the computer.
