SOURCE: Compaq Presario SR1000 desktop boot up problem
nothing to do with the ram ... this motherboard sometimes locks, ( dont ask me why) but if you take out the power cord for 5-10 minutes and then press and hold the front power button on the machine (about 10 seconds) it will reset the board. Plug in the power cord and the basic items, sound, video etc ( some usb devices tend to stop it booting to) boot into windows. Then add the rest of your usb devices ..

Go to bootdisk.com and download boot files for your operating system (ex. Windows XP). There are software for floppy disk which is the easier way to get your boot files. If you do not have a floopy you will have to get the CD files, there you have all the instructions how to get the CD. Once you get the files, insert the floopy or the CD and reboot your computer. The filse should be installed automatically, if not do it manually and reboot computer again.
SOURCE: compaq presario doesnt boot upon powering up
boot into the bios or if bios support diagnostics boot into that (typically F1 of F10 on power up) If that is not an option boot off the CD recovery disk and run diagnostics on the HD. Let me know we can take it from there.
SOURCE: powers up and cpu fan is racing but no boot,
This may be due to a CMOS mother board battery. I know that some tech or expert say that you can still boot without it but my experience is that if the CMOS battery is below 3.4 volts it may or may not post or boot. This battery is about the size of a quarter usually found at Walgreens or Walmart for about 3.00 dollars.
