Thanks for your quick reply. With cap off, no bolt , but looks like 1/2 inch socket extension would fit . Is that the tool , Is it right or left hand thread ?

    Thanks

Is a 1/2 in. extension the tool to use to remove the plastic nut ?

  • brobogus Feb 03, 2009

It is not a socket it is a square piece that runs down thru there. That is what i am needing to know

You should be able to remove the center cap, then bolt/nit, then lift the agitator out. Sometimes they crust up with detergent, so be prepared to use WD-40 or PB xxx (can't remember the name).

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Should be standard right hand. But go easy at it to be sure.

It's been a long time since I took one off. It's either 1/2 or 9/16. You should be able to feel it drop on when you get the right socket.

You can get an idea of the assembly from here -

Like I said, it's been awhile since I took one of these apart, so don't recall exactly the right socket and wrench sizes.

if it is like the other you have to remove the top cover of the agitator cap with a small flat head screwdriver, then using a 7/16" socket and ratchet with an extension remove the bolt(right hand thread) and pull up the agitator.

good luck to you.

If you have a steel innerdrum, there could be rusted hole through it and maybe they are under the agitator cone that you cannot see. You can certainly replace the inner drum but you will need to know how to remove the agitator and the special spanner nut that is difficult without the right tools. The agitator can at least be removed without too much trouble so you can see if there is any rust holes where you can't see. Goodluck, MACGIVOR

Kenmore 90 plus series: heavy duty super capacity won't agitate

this is the site to find out how to fix your washer.
you have a broken drive coupling.
it probably wont agitate or spin, but will fill and drain.
you need to remove 2 screws from the control panel, hinge it back and then remove the 2 brass colored clips that hold the cabinet to the base. once you do then pull the entire cabinet forwards to a 45 degree angle and pull it off the base.
then pull the 2 clips off pump and then 2 more on the motor. that will allow you to get to the drive coupling. you will find it to be broken.
replace it with part number 285753a for about 15-20 bucks.
